Foreword AILROADS have long played a vital part in the growth of America s cities While the shrill hoot of the train whistle is the death knell of some communities, it is the birth wail of others, for in- dustry and railroad go hand in hand Sidney has been no exception The industries upon which most of us depend are, in turn, depend- ent upon the railroads We rely upon rails for our mail our fuel, our machinery, as well as for per- sonal transportation We of Sidney owe a great deal to the Delaware and Hudson and the Ontario and Western railroads Sidney also possesses a third railroad which links not city to city but childhood to adulthood the Sidney Grades and High School Although somewhat smaller and less busy then Grand Central Station the Sidney central terminal of this railroad, which stands at the corner of Pleasant and Liberty Streets, has all the business it can handle Subsidiary stations for half fare pass engers are located in Sidney Center, Masonville and the Government Project Due to ever mcreas mg traffic a new terminal IS being erected on Pearl Street The G 8x H engineers are responsible for the safe and successful Journey of all its passengers Its ticket agent in her office at the central termin al is always ready to aid a passenger in routing a Journey to his best advantage Sixty one well trained conductors are in charge of individual com partments No passenger's trip is strictly business the program offered by the club car is varied and popular and special sports trips are taken through Susquenango League When most of the passengers climb on the G Sz H they are in the half fare category but as their Journey continues and they pass stop after stop they become full fare passengers When their days of travel on the G Kr H are through the passengers are better equipped to take their places in an adult world In the pages of the 1951 Reflector we have caught the Sidney G gl H in mid journey Come with us into the terminal where you will be introduced to the Board of Directors and go into the ticket agent s office Then we will climb on the train and see the engineers the first aid station the dining car the conductors the club car We will show you the different stops and take you through Sus quenango League And you will meet the depart mg passengers who have reached the end of the line on the Sidney G Xa H SECTION PAGE ABOARD THE G 8: H KADMINISTRATION AND CURRICULUM, CLUB CAR QACTIVITIESD :PORT TRIP KSPORTSJ TICKET OFFICE QGRADESD STATIONS KCLASSESJ END OF THE LINE KSENIORSD . . .
