1942 Dear Diary, A bunch of shy eighth graders entered the freshman year so silently that we were hard- ly noticed, except by the teachers who thought we were pests. We did nothing to make us outstanding except to get a little more courage. Will the time ever come when the halls of Sidney entral are as familiar to us as they are to the seniors of '43?--Certainly do worship the seniors. Had air raid drills. 1943 Dear Diary, Our freshman year passed all too quickly. And now we're sophomores. We are beginning to earn a name for ourselves--even if it is only Those Sophomores. 1944 Dear Diary, Time marches on. Just call us juniors. This is the year for funl After a good deal of indecision, the class voted purple and white as its colors and the sweet pea its flower. Bill Landon was elected president of the class and his able assistants were Dave,Crandall, vice-president, Peggy Patrick, treasurerg and Marion Fiske, secretary. Mrs. Bellinger and Miss Metz kindly took us by the hand and lead us in and out of our financial difficulties. Along with a square dance we gave a Junior Prom, the first in several years due to the war. And then came the junior play, u0ur Town,n'which gave us all a good deal of fun and worry. The new wing of the school was opened and the high school students invaded its cold corri- dors. Our class membership was dwindling because so many of the fellows were now in the service. Graduating among the class of '45 were Egon Wischhusen and Fred Hanni, two of our former class members, now members of the navy and army respectively. 1945 Dear Diary, The year has come. The corridors of Sidney Central are so familiar that we could walk them blindfolded. There aren't so many of us left, but we are carrying on. In number, the class has 41 members and Miss Metz is our faithful advisor. We feel that she will always remember us as the noisiest class to walk the halls and the one with the craziest class meetings. We lent Bill Landon to the Student Council to be president and Sylvia Trees to the HMaroon and Whiteu as editor. Nick Mazzarella was elected president of the class of '46 and his able assistants were Joe Rutkowski, vice-president, Sally Angell, secretary, and Lorraine Huyck, treasurer: Now with only one year to make enough money for our senior trip, we began all sorts of projects including selling magazines, a square dance, bake sales and selling pop and hotdogs at the game. And of course, the senior play, 'Best Foot Forward.W March 1946 Dear Diary, The day, June 24, for which we have waited so long is approaching all too quickly, and soon we will be out in the world. The class of '46 is the first peacetime raduating class since 1941. We hate to say goodbye, but we want you always to remember tgat: nThough our hi h school days are o'e We will ever love our Sidney High As we did in days of yore. Maroon and White will always be the colors That will make our pulses throb. Sidney High to you We will all be true Sidney High, dear Sidney High.n 12
