Basketball 48 49 It was certamly a blg year for the Red and Whlte of the Sxdney basketball team They won a total of 15 games While losmg only 6 They advanced farther than any other team m Sndney hxstory by wmnmg the Boys State Sectional and losmg to Clarmda 1n the Hrst round of the D1str1ct tourney Clarxnda went, on to wln the Dlstrxct It was a fast movmg season for the Cowboys and they vuound up on top of the county conference heap wlth a total of 7 VICIOYICS and 0 defeats m conference play The team then advanced to the fmals of the county tournament vthere they were taken out by Farragut The team then went to the Secnonal where they whxpped Malvern the Mxlls county champs by ten POIHIS Three n1ghts later the Sldney team bested Tabor to wxn the Class A Secuonal The Sldney Red and White fxmshed w1th three new trophxes .ln the trophy case lst ln the County conference Znd 1n the County Tourney lst 1n the Sectxonal Sxdney should have another fine team next year They lose Hardman stellar guard and Wxlkle pxvot We the team want to express our thanks to Coach johnson who worked hard vuth us all season and who has put Sxdney on the wmmng track P Y . . , . . .
