Their next meet was the TrifState meet at Tarkio and Keller was the only member who was able to win a place in the rugged competition that was provided by 30 schools in Kansas, Iowa, and Missouri. The next meet was the Fremont County meet in which the team met with success and captured the county championship. Keller was Sidney's outstanding performer in the meet, capturing both the low and high hurdles and placed second in two other events. He was ably assisted by Butts, Hardman, Melville, Myers, Lord who all placed high in their re' spective events. The day following the County meet the boys went to the invitational meet at Nebraska City, where Butts tied for first in the pole vault and Keller captured the low hurdles. Next they went to the TrifState Conference meet and came in and placed third behind Tarkio and Rockport. The district meet was held in Shenandoah where Keller, Hardman, and Lord won their events and thus qualihed for the State meet which was held at Iowa State College. Keller placed third in the State meet in the 200 yard but Lord and Hardman failed to place The boys this year are looking forward to an equally successful season in 49 with Z7 boys reporting for track this year Girls Track 48 The Sidney Girls track team of 1948 was the best in history of S H S The girls took part in just one meet which was held at Mustang field in Shenandoah They won more points than any other school entitling them to the first place trophy They also won the trophy given for Hrst place in the relays Baseball 48 The baseball team this year was composed primarily of underclassmen and lacked the needed experience to form a winning combination They started out by losing 4 straight games and then hit their stride by knocking off Percival 2 l in a tight ball game Sidney then entered the Sectional Tournament where they played without a Senior on the squad The team whipped Strahin 9 2 in the first round and were defeated by Thurman 'G 0 in the semi finals Thurman won the tournament This vxas the best game the ball club turned in all year This years team is looking forward to a good season next year as it will have every member returning to the squad They will also have the extra years experience to carry them along the winning p tth f r' K rin 0 E L3s,54QxtaK .13 5 1 32 . . . , .
