Get that rebound Se The 1959-60 basketball season has been a great and unforgettable one for Shrewsbury High School Clinching the Central Massa chusetts Conference League Championship was the highlight of the season With an eighteen and five record the Colonials have enjoyed one of the best seasons ever The team s eighteen victories matched the previous all time high for a Shrewsbury squad The season opened on the Wachusett Regional court with the S H S five scoring a victory over the Mountaineers in a fast moving and thrilling game The next games were with the city teams of South North and Commerce. These teams invaded and over-powered Shrewsbury and the inexperienced Colonials fell to defeat. Gaining poise and experience the hard fighting Shrewsburyites tumed in eight con- secutive wins flashing the form that eventually brought them to the league title. This winning streak came to an end with a dis- heartening overtime loss at Northbridge before a highly partisan crowd. This victory for the Rams moved them into a tie for first place in the Central Massachusetts Conference. With the league leadership in danger the Colonials then tumed back a strong Milford quintet by Co-Captain John laspers decisive scoring in the last three seconds of play. Following were victories over Marlboro Aubum Maynard Hud- son and Clinton thus setting the stage for the championship clash with Northbridge. The Colonials led throughout the first half of this game but found themselves trailing by five points entering the fourth period. With three minutes of play remaining and down by six points the S. H. S. five spurted into the lead and defeated the Rams in the most exciting and thrilling game ever played on the new Shrewsbury court. This 60-55 victory captured the league title for the Colonials. Along with the team annexing the league championship John Jasper won the Central Massachusets Conference scoring title and also broke the school scoring record pouring in over 400 points for the season. Brian Grimley and Seth Cummings also starred throughout the season scoring 218 and 214 points respectively. Graduation will mean the loss of Tom Kilroy whose inspirational play and leadership has meant a great deal to the success of the Colonials throughout the season. Also lost through graduation will be Brian Crimley and Co-Captains John Jasper and Bob Casey. Shrewsbury has advanced to the final round of the annual Bay State Toumament hy defeating Billerica and Methuen High. The Colonials met Reading High for the championship, March 19, in class B play. Hopes for another winning season are bolstered by the return of many lettermen, The varsity players returning are George Per- kins. Seth Cummings, Mike Costello, Mike Foley. Roy Chesley, and Lee Pine. Nice Jump .lohn Time out.
