LAMBDA TAU SIGMA IDIWSI-flf'IIf Doris Whitney l'1'cc-Pr'c.sz'flcnf Marriane Zenis Sccrcfary Beverly .lanson 'l'1'e'r1sz1r'c1' Elise Johnson Arlrism- Mrs. Russell Bath September, 1948, and another year of Lambda Tau Sigma began. It was a year filled with many happy hours together under the wonderful and able guidance of our adviser, Mrs. Russell Bath. The first social activity of the year was the annual hayride. This was followed by a penny sale, where each member was allowed to bring guests. As the weeks flew by, we found our- selves beginning plans for the Christmas Ball. In order to have sufficient funds for the dance, a food sale was held in Maclnnes department store. The dance was a grand success, and for the first time in three years we weren't honored with a blizzard. On February fifth the Record Roundup was held and all funds were given the Shrewsbury Home Nursing and Heart Fund. Later on in this month a campaign was carried on, clothes collected and a Rummage Sale was held in Worcester. This sale proved to be well worth the work which it involved. During the year we have had speakers such as Mr. Parsons. Dr. Jewell, Mrs. Holbrook, Miss Mildred Bailey of station WCOP in Boston, and Mrs. McVicker of Grafton. Each speaker left us with invaluable information about different vocations. An important change was made in the constitution whereby definite goals were set toward which any girl could strive to attain membership. Our year together will end with a banquet, where, for the last time, the Seniors will share another wonderful memory and leave with the feeling that they have learned to work and play together as active members of an active society. GIRLS' BASKETBALL Coach . . Miss Margaret Chase Co-captrrins Mary Ross, Jane Greenwood M11 wagers Doris Whitney. .lean Wallsten This year the Girls' Varsity Basketball team was composed entirely of Juniors. Every game proved exciting although the results were not so encouraging for the Shrewsbury team. Despite the brilliant efforts of the team, with Mary Ross as high scorer. it won only two games out of twelve. Two bright spots in a rather dark and gloomy season were the exhibition games, the first with the teachers and the second with the Boys' Varsity. Though the Girls' Varsity led from the first, the teachers livened up the game by wearing colorful cos- tumes and going through such antics as using a stepladder to reach the baskets. The match between the boys and the girls was thrilling, but we still won't mention the score!! Our sincere thanks to the good sports who contributed their time and energies toward making these two games successful. Best of luck to next yearfs team. Let's hope they have just as entertaining a season as this year's but a little bit more successful.
