BASEBALL Shrewsbury High opens its baseball season April 29, when it will play St. John's. The first Blackstone Valley League game is May 3, with Auburn. Because of the weather the boys haven't been able to work outdoors so it is hard to predict what is in store for the Shrewsbury nine. However, many veterans are back from last year so the pros- pects look bright. Veterans returning are Gerry Granger, Dave Morgan, Bob Tonelli, Marty Wilson, Roy Danielson, Bob Coughlin, Tom Hays, Eddie Garrepy, and Joe Fleming. Shrewsbury will face the following teams this year: St. John's, Auburn, Clinton, Grafton, Millbury, Northbridge, Uxbridge. Two games will be played with each school. CREW This year the crew looks very promising. Although they have lost four oarsmen, they still have quite a few veterans left and many of last year's second crew will make strong bids for places in the first boat. Veterans back include several members of the senior class. Boys representing the Colonials for the last time are Bill Elliot, Harry Shepard, Bob Olson, and Russ Eaton. Races are scheduled with Tabor Academy, Kent School, and several other schools. The season will be climaxed by the New England Schoolboy Regatta, which will be held on Lake Quinsiga- mond. The Regatta brings together some of the finest schools in New England. There is a possibility the crew will compete in Philadelphia again this year. 57

After losing eight straight games, the Colonials finally found the mark against one of our chief rivals-Holden. By defeating Holden. the Colonials went on to take a one point decision over Auburn a few nights later. Then they began to run into some tall teams again and were not able to score a victory until they played Clinton near the tail end of the season. The Colonials then entered the Clark tournament as underdogs but very nearly upset a much taller opposing tive before the tournament ended. In a post-season game Shrewsbury found the range again and scored a thrilling victory over Northbridge High School. In a pre-season game Shrewsbury traveled to Boston Garden where they encountered a defeat by Clinton. The J-Vs had a very impressive season winning all but tive of their games. Next year's squad will be needing some of them to till the positions left by the graduating seniors. FOOTBALL Hrnrl CYIHIUII Francis A. On Armistice Day one of our big rivals, Holden, was defeated 13-T. Our next triumph was over Westboro on Thanksgiving Day. Harvey Lerner was elected captain of next year's team. -79
