The society has also contributed to various worthwhile causes-Shrewsbury Home Nursing Society. Junior Red Cross, and CARE. Membership in the National Honor Society is the greatest dis- tinction that can be bestowed upon a student in Shrewsbury High School. Both the school and the faculty appreciate the qualities of character, scholarship. leadership, and service displayed by its members. JUNIOR RED CROSS Chairman Beverly Janson Secretary Dorothy Park Arlriser NBS Ethel Sawin The aims and purposes of the Junior Red Cross are threefold: to promote better relations between the United States and foreign countriesg to help war-stricken countries: and to make the phys- ically handicapped more cheerful. This year the students filled gift boxes for refugees overseas, made Christmas tray mats, and Hlled candy baskets. BASEBALL Shrewsbury High opens its baseball season April 29, when it will play St. John's. The first Blackstone Valley League game is May 3, with Auburn. Because of the weather the boys haven't been able to work outdoors so it is hard to predict what is in store for the Shrewsbury nine. However, many veterans are back from last year so the pros- pects look bright. Veterans returning are Gerry Granger, Dave Morgan, Bob Tonelli, Marty Wilson, Roy Danielson, Bob Coughlin, Tom Hays, Eddie Garrepy, and Joe Fleming. Shrewsbury will face the following teams this year: St. John's, Auburn, Clinton, Grafton, Millbury, Northbridge, Uxbridge. Two games will be played with each school. CREW This year the crew looks very promising. Although they have lost four oarsmen, they still have quite a few veterans left and many of last year's second crew will make strong bids for places in the first boat. Veterans back include several members of the senior class. Boys representing the Colonials for the last time are Bill Elliot, Harry Shepard, Bob Olson, and Russ Eaton. Races are scheduled with Tabor Academy, Kent School, and several other schools. The season will be climaxed by the New England Schoolboy Regatta, which will be held on Lake Quinsiga- mond. The Regatta brings together some of the finest schools in New England. There is a possibility the crew will compete in Philadelphia again this year. 57
