TRAFFIC SQUAD Captains , Beverly Janson, Russell Eaton Floor Leaders Doris Whitney, Joan Thayer, Jean Wallsten, George Concordia Advisers Mr. Cooke, Mr. Jacobs, Mr. Baccaro The purpose of the traffic squad is to regulate the passage of pupils to and from classes. The formation of the traffic squad in 1931 was a solution to the corridor regulation problems. Since that time the traffic squad has been recognized as one of the organizations without which the school could not function properly. Miss Ethel Sawin, Mr. James Cooke The Student Council provides a maximum opportunity for student participation in school affairs, promotes the welfare of the school, and helps the student to acquire experience and effici- ency in the practice of democracy. Its duties are the selection of traffic officers, planning and supervision of class elections, send- ing delegates to the National and State area student council con- ventions, and sponsorship of the Junior Red Cross. The council is consulted in assigning activities for the year, sponsors Junior Red Cross, sponsors Suggestion Box, assists in selecting traffic officers, plans and supervises class elections, and sends delegates to National and State area student council con- ventions. 43

JUNIOR CLASS President , Harvey Lerner Vice-Presirlmzf Marjorie D'Amato Secretary Jeanne Carpenter Treasurer , Marilyn Lindberg The Junior class has had a busy yearg having its social cal- endar filled with dances, special attention, of course, being focused on the Junior Prom. It also undertook the selling of Christmas cards and wrapping paper as a money-making activity. The annual Prize Speaking Contest was the highlight this year and they were very proud of all who took part in the contest. The president and all the other class officers have worked long and hard to make the Junior year a successful one. SOPHOMORE CLASS President, . . ..,. Roberta Loomer The Sophomore Class, this year, was greatly increased by a number of pupils who came from the Coolidge School. There are now eighty members in the class. On December 17, 1948 a social was held at the school. Although not too many were present, a good time was had by those who attended. The one main social event of the year was the Sophomore Hop held April 29, 1949. 45 i
