The word sophomore when dlslded into two parts reveals the Greek word sophos meaning WISE and the word morose mean ing foolish This name was neser so well placed as It was on that group of sophomores In that fall of 46 thes were Jomed bs another group of students who halled from Coolidge Junior High School A Sophomore Social w as enjos ed so that thes could become acquainted Then followed class elections with George Concordla Beverls Janson Malrlane Zenls and Margers Goodell elected as officers As set the duties of these officers w ere rather light It was at this t1me that thes plunged into the1r first real mones making senture the Sophomore Hop The affair was held in Nee Hall amld balloons streamers pictures of fat ladies and clowns to lend an atmosphere of 1 circus to it all Although the returns were nnanclalls rather small soclalls the dance was September rolled around again and th1s time thes were enthuslastlc Juniors Once again thes found themselves at the polls for electlons For the1r president thes re elected George Concordia Ann Gonva became the1r v1ce presldent Marrlane Zenls secretars and Midge Goodell treasurer The Sadle Hawkms dance started thlngs buzzlng agaln As th1s was leap sear the g1rls asked the bovs called for them furnlshed or1g1nal corsages and took them home after wards A gas and h1lar1ous time was had bs In Mas the Junior Prize Speaklng Contest was held and Margers Goodell succeeded 1n wlnnlng first prize wlth Rlchard Antoun and Doris Whitnes second and third June n1nth 1948 was the nlght the JUHIOFS were ant1c1pat1ng the nlght of the1r Junior Prom' The hall was turned lnto an old fash loned garden ss 1th floss ers galole lNancs Stevens was chosen Queen of the Prom And now the Junior sear had drawn to a close N acatlon over our s oung hopefuls returned to Beal High to find themselves seniors' The offlcers to guide them in their final quarter toward graduation were David Morgan Mar 11ane Zenls Jean Wallsten and Midge Goodell To start this sear off the annual Victors Dmce was held with music furnished bs Bruce Choate As alwas s the dance was vers successful On December 10 a Whist Parts was held 1n Nee Hall Umntentionalls a member of the class won first prize The w1nn1ng table was plas ed bs Joan Thas er Phs ll1s Sencabaugh bud Hall and Ceorge Concordia At Christmas time the Senlor Choir pre sented a Choral Cantata Aldlng them was the Freshman Cholr and the Dramatic Club Their trip to Washlngton and New York w is one of the most unforgettable events of their high school career Among the places thes visited were the Naval Academv at An napolls Smithsonlan Institute Mellon Art Gallers Mount Vernon and Arlington Ceme ters However the biggest splash of the tr1p was the evenlng spent at the swlmmlng pool IH the Ambassador Hotel No casualtles as a result of this hilarious experience were recorded Class Dav a das strictls for laughs IS here It IS our last chance to share Jokes wlth all classmates and friends The scene noss shifts to Graduation Das Amid full hearted farew ells the great curtain begins to drop Suddenls it bursts 1nto the flame of the crackling logs 1n the fireplace The dream has vanlshed and a heavs sigh of wistfulness came os er me as I realized that one of the most noteworths of Beal High s groups had passed into the realm of memors Isancs Stevens Margers Goodell , cc ay , ' Y' - v 1 Y v , t I .
