CAPTAIN ALAN B. MOSER UNITED STATES NAVY COMMANDER AMPHIBIOUS SQUADRON SIX Captain Alan B. Moser was born in Baker, Oregon, on 19 February 1941. He attended Eastern Oregon College, graduating in july 1964. He was commissioned Ensign in April 1964, upon completion of Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island. Early sea tours included Communications Officer, USS CARTER HALL QLSD 3, and following graduation from Destroyer School, Newport, Rhode Island, Chief Engineer, USS HIGBEE QDD 806l. Following a tour as a Weapons Department Instructor, Destroyer School, Newport, Rhode Island, he was assigned as Flag Secretary to Commander, Naval Forces, Vietnam. In December 1973, he returned to sea as Executive Officer, USS IOHN S. MCCAIN QDDG 37I. From june 1975 to August 1978, he served as Enlisted Programs Officer, Recruiting Area EIGHT, Treasure Island, California. Following graduation from the Naval War College in September 1979, he was assigned as Executive Officer, USS EL PASO QLKA 117j. He commanded USS PLYMOUTH ROCK QLSD 291 from August 1981 to April 1983 and served as Executive Officer, USS NASSAU QLHA 4I from April 1983 until August 1985. He was then assigned as Head of the Amphibious Warfare Branch QOP 3729, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations until September 1987. Cap- tain Moser commanded USS PONCE QLPD 151 from March 1988 until january 1990. He assumed the duties of Commander, Amphibious Squadron SIX in january 1990. Captain Moser's awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal Ithree awardsj, Navy Achievement Medal and various theater and unit awards. Captain Moser is married to the former Suedean Rae Dunn of Ontario, Oregon. They have three chil- dren, jeffrey, Mark and Kimberlee. COL. T. A. HOBBS . COMMANDING OFFICER REGIMENTAL LANDING TEAM TWO RLT-2 Colonel HOBBS was born on March 16, 1944 in Kelso, Washington. Upon graduation from Oregon State University in 1967, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. Initial assignment after completing The Basic School in january, 1968 was as a rifle pla- toon commander with 3d Battalion, 6th Ma- rines, 2d Marine Division. In August 1968, he was transferred to the Republic of Vietnam where he served as a rifle platoon commander and Commanding Offi- cer of Company K, 3d Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. From October, 1969 to December, 1971 he was assigned as the Assistant Operations Officer, Reserve Branch, 12th Marine Corps District Headquarters in San Francisco, Califor- ma. In january, 1972 Captain HOBBS was as- signed as a student at Amphibious Warfare School in Quantico, Virginia. After graduation, he was assigned to 3d Battalion, 4th Marines, 3d Marine Division in Okinawa as Command- ing Officer, Headquarters and Service Compa- ny, and subsequently as Commanding Officer, Company M. From October 1973 to September, 1976, Captain HOBBS was assigned to the Basic School, Quantico, Virginia. During this period he served as a Staff Platoon Commander, Head of Patrolling Section, Commanding Officer, Headquarters and Service Company, and as a Tactics Instructor. From October, 1976 to August, 1979, he was assigned to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, 1st Marine Brigade in Kaneohe, Hawaii. Initially assigned as Commanding Officer, Company L and for twenty-nine months as the Battalion Operations Officer. He was promoted to Ma- jor during April 1978. In September, 1979 Major HOBBS report- ed to Headquarters Marine Corps, serving for one year as a member of a DoD Training Man- agement-Reserve Component Study Group, and for two years as the Mobilization Officer, Reserve Affairs Division. After leaving Headquarters Marine Corps, Major HOBBS attended the Command and Staff College, Quantico, Virginia, graduating in june, 1983. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in july, 1983 and assigned as the G-3 Plans Officer, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okina- wa japan. In july, 1984 he was ordered to the Second Marine Division and assigned initially as the Executive Officer, Sixth Marine Regi- ment and then Commanding Officer Second Battalion, Sixth Marines. From june 1987 to june 1990 Lieutenant Colonel HOBBS was assigned to Marine Corps Command and Staff College where he served initially as an instructor and the last year as the Dean of Academics. He was promoted to Col- onel in August, 1989. Colonel HOBBS' personal decorations in- clude the Silver Star, Bronze Star with Combat V , Meritorious Service Medal, Combat Ac- tion Ribbon,-and the Vietnamese Cross of Gal- lantry with Gold Star. Colonel HOBBS and his wife, the former jane jackson of Marshall, Minnesota have two sons - jeffery and Peter. -'
