Captain K. H. johnson Captain Kenneth Humphrey johnson is a native of Hallendale, Florida. He is a graduate of lowa State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry and Technology. He entered Officer Candidate School in New port, Rhode Island in 1964 and was commissioned as an Ensign in june of that year. Captain johnson's first assignment vsas as First, Second, and Third Division Officer aboard USS PLYMOUTH ROCK QLSD 29j. .-Xfter promotion to Lieutenant junior Grade, he was Fleeted Up to First Lieutenant. lie was next assigned as .i student at the Mine Warfare School in Charles- ton, South Carolina and then as Operations Cllfit er ahoard USS VENTUREQMSO Capj. johnson's next assigmnent, after a hrief period as .Nsstsltitfl for Special Projects on the staff of the Com- mander, Cruiser Destroyer Fort e, t, s fXtIantit fleet, vs as as a student at the Destroyer School in Newport, Rhode Island. lle was tltt-rt assigned as the l.N'eapons Officer aboard USS DAMATO QDD 8711j. Captain johnson's nest assignment vvas as the f-xetutive Officer of USS MANITOWOC fl.ST 1180j. ln january 1979, he was assigned as the Plans and Policy Officer for Drug and Alcohol Programs in the Manpovver Division on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations. He served in this hillet for six months and vvas promoted to tiommander. lle moved to a new job as the Special Assistant for Minority' -Xtfairs and the Program Manager for Minority Recruiting on the staff of the Ciommancler, Navv Ret rtiiting tiomrnand in Arlington, Virginia. Captain johnson's next assignment was at sea as the Commanding Officer of USS SAGINAW tLST1188j. liollovving his at-sea c ornrnantl tour, he reported as the Commanding Officer ofthe Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Linit at Florida AS M University in Tallahassee, Florida. He was next assigned as a Special ,'Xssistar1t to the Chief of Naval Operations for Special Projects. During this tour, he was chosen to he the Commanding Officer of USS SHREVEPORT. Captain johnson's awards incltide the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Unit Commenda- tion, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Sea Service Ribbon. Captain johnson is married to the former Bernadine V. McCall of Buffalo, New York. The johns- on's have two children, Monica and Kenneth jr.
