Captain D. J. Montgomery Captain David J. Montgomery is a native ofLansing, Michigan. He graduated from the Univer- sity of Michigan in 1964 with a B. A. in Mathematics, following which he was commissioned an Ensign through the Reserve Officer Candidate tROCl Program. As a junior ofiicer he served onboard the USS JOSEPHUS DANIELS LCG 27, USS WITEK tDD 8481, USS PARSONS QDDG 351, and USS AGERHOLM tDD 8261. During the period 1971-1972 he was assigned as an advisor of the Vietnamese Navys Fleet Command. This was followed by a tour as Op- erations Readiness Officer with the Canadian Navys Pacific Headquarters in Esquimalt, Brit- ish Columbia. Following graduation from the Naval War College Command and Staff course in 1975, Cap- ci i Flvcfclr 75, tain Montgomery served on the staff of Commander, Cruiser Destroyer rot p and then as Executive Officer of the USS BROOKE lFl'G 11. In 1979, he was ordered to the staffofCommander-in-Chief U. S. Naval Forces, Europe, in London, England, as Surface Op- erations Officer. ln March 1985, Captain Montgomery was assigned as the last commanding officer of the USS POINT DEFIANCE tLDS 511. After the POINT DEFIANCE was decommis- sioned on 50 September 1983, he tools command of the USS TUSCALOOSA QLST 11871, a position he held until January 1986. After his tour on TUSCALOOSA, Captain Montgomery assumed duties as Chief Staff Officer for Commander, Amphibious Squadron ONE from May 1986 to May 1987. lie then served as Commanding Officer, USS RACINE 11.51 11911 from May to November 1987, and most recently as Executive Officer, Surfat e Warsfare Officers School Command, Newport, R.
