Raised on Long Island out- wide of New York City, he graduated from the University of Maryland in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in In- drrwtrial Engineering. He received his commiwion through the Reserve Officer Candidate Program and graduated from Officer Candidate School in the same year. He continued his education after commiseioning and received a Master of Science Degree from American Universi- ty in Computer Systems!Management Information Systems in 1974. His U.S. Navy echooling includes Gunnery School in 1969, Surface Warfare Officer's School Department Head Course in 1975, Split Tour Engineer Officer Course in 1980, and Prospective Executive Officer Course in 1983. Commander Cannon wears the Navy Achievement Medal. He was designated as Surface Warfare Offi- cer in 1972.
