CLASS HIS TORY The year 1948 is a year to be remembered, for it was in this year that 50 eager, excited, and unsuspecting freshmen entered the halls of Shreve High to face four years that would leave a deep impression on their lives This impression was different for each stu dent, as only they knew what school was to mean to them. Being big kids, we now shed our underwear and decided to dig down in our studies. a laughl is the time was drawing nigh for us to vote C7 yearsl, we agreed to elect our class officers the way our government officals are elected The class divided up into three states, Washington, Oregon, and Califorma. The victors were as follows: President, Jimmie Dunham Ehllforniax Vice President, Frank Hoover Chliforniag Secretary, Patsy Shelley lashingtong Treasurer, Franklin Garrett Oregon: Student Council, Richard Armstrong and Dean Davis Chliforniag Reporter, Barbara Reeves hlifornla. Chr freshmen glory was magnified greatly when Dean Akins became a member of the varsity basketball team. On the reserve team we were represented by Richard Armstrong, Frank Hoover, and Paul Dessenberg Dean Akins, Frank Hoover, and Roger Wachtel were members of the base ball team Mary Lynn Leedy, Janet Willard, and Sune Logan were reserve cheerleaders On the debate team we were proud to have Barbara Reeves Mary Lynn Leedy, Barbara Reeves, and Susie Logan were in the declamation group Out for Prince of Peace were Barbara and Susie Loran. On October 8th, we were given the works by the Sophomores as our freshmen initiation To this day some of us still smell those onions which we wore dangling at our necks le repeated our dxristnas program aga1n this year It was even better than the year before From our class llary Lynn Lcedy and Frank Hoover reigned as King and Queen of Shreve High Blue ended our freshman year After bidding good bye to all our classmates we crawled home to recuperate during the summer As the leaves began to fall, we again find our subJects minus 5 re entering school After many, long, hard, speeches Henry Chyhoe was elected president His cabinet members were Vice President, John Firebaughg Secretary, Irene Shelleyg Treasurer, Susie Logang Stu dent Council, Jim Dxnham and Mary Lynn Lcedy Sergeant of Arms, Marilyn Eschenberg Reportrx Betty Swartswalder On the varsity basketball team Deen Akins was again our representative Roger lachtel, Richard Armstrong, and Paul Dessenberg, were on the reserve team Out for baseball were Roger lachtel, Paul Dessenberg, and Dean Akins. In the mus1c department we were represented with Kenny McCreary 1n the quartette and Marilyn Yockey, Marilyn Eschenberg, and Barbara Reeves in the sextet were Barbara Reeves, Mary Lynn Leedy, and Susie Logan Aga1n Barbara and Susie gave Pr nce of Peace addresses. lhring the year we decided upon our class sweaters They were black with red letters To climax our year, we charetered a bus and saw the Cleveland Indians lose a game to the Boston Red Sox Forty four Juniors bowed low to the mighty Seniors as we journeyed back to school Our officers this year were, President, Henry Qsyhoeg Vice Presldent, John Firebaugh, Secretary, Annabelle Hershbergerg Treasurer, Susie Loran, Student Council, Mary Lynn Lcedy and Richard Armstrong: Reporter, Joan 'Wharton Dean Akins again I-'etathei his position on the varsity Richard Armstrong, Jack Hostett lcr, and Roger Iachtel were on the reserves Mary Lynn Leedy was a varslty cheerleader and Joan Wharton, Annabelle Hershberger, and Sus1e Logan were reserve cheerleaders John Fire baugh, Jim Dmham, and Franklin B-lltln were on the track team On the baseball team were Frank Hoover, Roger Wachtel, Paul Dessenberg, and Dean Akins In the gi.rl's sextette were Barbara Reeves, Marilyn Yockey, and Marilyn Eschenberg On the debate team we had Susie Logan and Barbara Reeves, and Susie Loran entered into the Prince of Peace contest That year for the f1rst time in the hlstory of Shreve High School, we, the Junior Class gave two class plays 'Ihey were intitled 'Fixit Incorporated , and 'The House of the Flash ing Light' Dlrected by Mr Barrett, the plays were, of course, big successes Our theme for the Junlor Senlor Banquet was 'Garden of Fri.endsh1p The auditorum was decorated as a garden scene and as the guests arrived and were seated, lt became a beautihxl picture to behold Again we gave our Christmas program for idle hlgh school Our assembly program was a mock wedding If you haven't seen the boys of the class dressed as girls, then you have really mused something Daring this year we got our class rings Each was very much plea sed mth his rmg and sincerely believed they had the prettiest r1ng yet Our representatives to gi.rl's and boy's state were Annabelle Hershberger and J1m Dunham To add that finlshing touch to our Junlor year, we took a tour to the 9011'bhe1'D. part of Ohio What . . c 5 - . CLASS HISTCRY Ccn't After a summer spent completely in getting prepared for our Senior Year, we entered upon that long desired goal. Ie found there were now only 39 in the fold. Jack Hostettler was given the honor of being the Senior class president. Vice President, John Firebaughg Secre- tary, Annabelle Hershbergerg Treasurer, Susie Logan, Student Council, Janet Willard and Franklin Garrettg and Reporter, Betty Lou Swartzwalder make up the rest of the class officers. Dean Akins, Jack Hostettler, Richard Armstrong, Paul Dessenberg, and Roger Wachtel were on the varsity basketball team Dean Akins was captain and Richard Armstrong served as 60' captain Dean lkins, Roger Wachtel, Jack Hostettler, Ronald Amos, Richard Armstrong, Paul Dessenberg, and Frank Hoover were on the baseball team Those on the track team were John rirebaugh, Jim Dunham, Franklin Kustin, and Frank Newmann Annabelle Hershberger and Susie Logan were varsity cheerleaders Barbara Reeves and Susie Logan were on the negatlve team in debate Agaln Barbara and Susie each gave a Prince of Peace address As was the custom, we picked up potatoes to earn money for our Semor tmp, and, as true to custom, our backs got mighty sore Our class play 'Silas Smldge From 'mrrup R1cge , was a b1g success We all hoped Henry wouldn't develop the smoklng hablt, since he was requlred to do so 1n the play For our gift to Rr Barrett, it was decided to give hm a hat, as we so carefully dropped one of his ln the dighwater during the nlght we served refreshments at the Halloween carnlval The main thang ln our minds this year was money and how to get :Lt Yes, money needed for our Senlor trip our goal was finally reached through bake sales, talent shows, candy stand, and many other ways Agaln we gave our Christmas program before the high school As this was to be the last time we would ever give it, each of us felt a lump in h1s throat It was after th1s, that it began to dawn upon our little mlnds that this really was our last year of school Now each and all of us began to grasp everythlng that school h d to offer Our Senior pictures were f1n1shed early ln December All our rel tlves were swamped wlth 'you know what' for Christmas All the Sen1ors were amazed when underclassmen stlll wanted a fr1endsh1p after belng wlth us for 12 years In May we gave our farewell assembly program Q1 the outs1de, we all d1d our best to put on a jolly lc-ok, whale on the 1nside we knew someth1ng was golng to be m1ss1ng, whlch could never be replaced our Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises were wonderful The zlrls wore whlte gowns, wh1le the boys wore blue Now at the end of our goal, we had our reward for our accomplishment Yes, our Senior trip It turned out to be every thlng expected and much more As we returned home and started blddmg our farewells, we knew we had been a very for tunate cl ss Our sponsor, Mr Barrett, who had been with us all our years of high school, had been more than Just a teacher to us, but had been a wonderful friend and person, whom would never forget Our high school days had been happy ones and, as every one took for granted, we had learned something Yes, these days were in the past, but our frlends and memories would last forever Q NN yy ag fi! ff!!
