WHEEL REPORT C9 HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 44 ln the year l94l the Class of 44 entered upon the fmal stretch of our race toward graduatlon Roarlng through our Freshman year under the guldance of Mrs Meehan and Mr Mark we whlzzed around a curve 1nto our Sophomore year We changed flremen at thts potnt and Mr W1ll1am Exton took over Mrs Meehan st1ll acted as engmeer Thts year we entered 1nto the sanctuary of the upper classmen Throughout the year we sponsored dances but all ln all had a rather uneventful trrp As we sped over a htll and dtpped xnto our IUHIOF year we agaln chang ed crews as we knew not what would he ahead Mlss Evangel1ne Peters now took control wlth Mr Emory McKerr tosstng the coal Our f1rst blg event was a farewell party for Lyndon Herendeen who was called to serve h1s country It was w1th deepest regret that we saw htm leave We w1sh htm lots of luck and may God speed hls return Agam we forged ahead toward our last Iumor event our Iumor Prom wtth mus1c by Sonny Allen Thls netted us a modest proflt and sent us on to our Semor year We now began our frnal spurt wtth another change tn crews Mlss Iohn son and Mr Spttzer took on the responstbthty of gettlng our traln to 1ts des t1nat1on The rematmng twenty frve members of our Class now moved 1nto out prlvate sulte from the study hall We were really upper Th1s year blg thmgs were to happen The ftrst mam event was our mterpretatton of The Late Chrlstopher Bean wtth a cast cons1st1ng of DeW1tt Brandow Anne Preston Ollve Broomfteld Sophfa Polco lames LeEevre Bernard Meehan lrene Wtlltams and Duane Walborn Mr Rtchard C Spttzer our Engltsh IV teacher dlrected the play and tt 1S now our wtsh to extend our smcere thanks to Mr Spttzer for hrs extremely hard work and tor the suC cessful productton We made arrangements for a sertes of basketball dances w1th muslc furntshed by the Vtc At thxs potnt the Semor Class of l944 wxshes to extend 1ts thanks to the faculty members who so wlllmgly gave thelr time to act as chaperons at these dances and other Senlor dances throughout the year The next pause m our rush toward the flmsh was the hlghly advertlsed Senxor Ball w1th mus1c furnlshed by the Swmg Masters The party s hlgh hght was the crowmng of lohn Record as Kmg and Cathertne Oklevltch as Queen One of the major events of our last year was the sponsorlng of a concert by artlsts from the Eastman School of Muslc for the beneflt of the H1 Lo Then too 1n the early Sprmg the Band lourneyed to Rochester to play for the students of Monroe Hlgh School Mr Hendersons Alma Mater Our team after havlng a rather d1sappo1nt1ng basketball season has embarked on a somewhat successful baseball season w1th the follow1ng veterans holdlng key posltlons Bernard Meehan Bob Ogden Gordon Parmele Gordon Broomfteld Duane Walborn and lack Record And now at the end of our tram rtde we w1sh to thank the entlre Faculty for 1mpart1ng to us the knowledge that wtll a1d us ln our future successes o 0 1 1 . 1 - 1 . . , . , .
