HISTORY OF THE CLASS OI' 1943 As we turn back the pages of trme to the year l93U we cannot help but re member how anxrously we awalted our f1rst day of school whrch summon eo us to a new adventure Under the able gutdance of Mrs Rachel Drllen beck our Krndergarten teacher we at tempted to learn our ABCs color wrth actual parnts and make a falnt resem blance of our own names Durrng the next three years wlth Mrss Shaw Mrs Robyn and Mrs Sutton we shared eager enthusram over Fleetfoot the Cave Boy our yearly part1es and spelhng contests Ol these capable teachers most of us advanced each year Then we enter ea the rntermedrate grades where we almost drove our teachers Mrs Cool ey Mrss OBr1en and Mrss Conlon to drstractron wrth tacks placed tn stra tegtc p aces and the varrety and srzes of snakes whrch we could brmg Ftnally rn l937 we became Iunlor Due to the p tlenc l-hgh members and thought we were very grown up to have more than one teacher and to enter the mrghty por tals of study hall Urged on by the proddlng of Mrs Harp and Mr Broom held some of us managed to become Sub Freshmen durrng the last half of our e1ghth year the last class allovv ed th1s prrvrlege Also rn the last half of that year some of us experlenced a great thr1ll when we ventured to let loose of our mothers apron strmgs long enough to spend a few days rn New York C1ty w1th the Band Then we entered f-hgh Schoolll Be l1eve us f-hgh School hasnt been the same srnce The task of guldmg us over the frrst bumps of l-hgh School was grven to Mrss Bresada and Mr Mark who both drd an excellent Job Never a class to be conventtonal W chmaxed the year by havrng a Sadr f awk ns Day dance Dunng our Sophomore year sever a of our class members went to At lant1c Crty wrth the Band for the Na tlonal contest Our advrsors for thrs year were Mrss Shortall and Mr l-lark enrrder As we entered our Iunror year we had a very lofty feehng for now we v ere Upperclassrrten lust before Chrrstrras we bought our class rrngs ond srgnalled for all left turns from then on At graduatton tme we were a very busy bunch of krds We follow ed two old tradrtrons of decoratlng the Gym for graduatron and holdrng a Iun1orSen1or pcnlc at Roseland but ve set a new precedent by holdrng our funlor Prom on graduatlon mght Thts Prom was also outstandlng be cause contrary to other years we made money on rt Wrthout the ard of Mrss Iohnson and Mr Harkenrrder our advrsors we never would have ucceeded Next year wrth the excltement over we settled down to the strenuous task or be ng Sen ors and shrnrng examples or the rest of the school Thrs year we started the Radro Broadcastmg Club whrch furnlshed a frve mrnute newscast every mormng Our Senror play When Men Marry whlch we ucceeded IH puttrng on after several delays was a huge success Shorts vrl e never knew that we had a Tyrone Power and several buddmg Sarah bernhardts 1n our class fnelther d1d we' The Tm Can Salvage Drrve was ponsored by the Senror Class and through the efforts of the students a gr at many cans were collected to l1ck the Axrs Through the years we have lost several members but we have garnfd others to take the1r places Among those who started out that eventful day ln l93U are thtrteen char ter members st1ll wrth us They a e lean McV1tt1e Mary Phrpps Beverly Stoddard Carolyn Farnsworth Betty Srmmons Lors Datthyn Ruth VanEt ten Ahce Sweeney Alyce Chesney Natahe Elhs Stephen Mox Esther Meath and Rrta Crarg As we leave thls school where we have spent many happy years we re ahze that we w1ll all be separated rn tlrs uncertam world of today but omewhere rn our memorles there w1ll always remain fond thoughts of the Class of 43' 1 - .
