HISTORY OF CLASS OF 39 ln the year 1936 the Class of 39 entered upon the frnal stretch of our race toward graduatron Roarrng through ou Freshman year under the gurdance of Mr Iohn W Turner we were the frrst Freshman Class to be honored wrth a prrvate surte A Freshman room was duly rnrtrated rnto use by our thrr ty four members Flashrng around a turn we changed steersman and Mrss Ro alre Gross took the wheel Thrs year we were classed as assrmrlated enough to be en tered rnto the sanctuary of the upper classmen the study hall A party clr maxed the run of our Sophomore year As we sped over a hrll and drpped rnto our Iunror yo r we agarn chang ed drrver Mr Leland Blazey now took control and we rlashed rnto our frrst real eventrul year A f-lallowe en dance was the frrst evrdence of thrs year s socral occurrences Thrs party was a colossal success and the Class garned speed for the next gatherrng Thrs was a movrng prcture show starrrng Slrm Summervrlle Thrs netted the treasury a neat profrt and me rolled forward to a party sponsored by us for the Senrors Game occupred the frrst half of the evenrng and the last was passed by dancrng to an orchestra compos ed of local rnusrcrans Ice cream and cake were served durrng rntermrssron and everyone gorged hrmself to hrs full capacrty Agarn we forged ahe d toward our last Iunror event a prcnrc at Owasco Park sponsored agam bv us for the Senrors Refreshments were taken along and served at the Dark We now began our frnal spurt strll wrth Mr Blazey gurdrng us wrth a deft hand Srxteen of our orrgrnal thrrty four classmen moved from study hall back rnto our prrvate surte We were the real stuff upper classmen who were really upper Thrs year brg thrngs were to happen The frrst thrng was our Senror rendrtron of the Spanrsh Onron starrrng Norma Walborn and Gerald Lewrs the onron Mrss Mrldred Gross our esteemed Englrsh Four rnstructor drrected the play and rt rs now our wrsh to extend our srncere thanks to Mrss Gross for her extremely hard work and for the success whrch the play was As we agarn pulled rnto lrne we made arrangements for a serres of basketball dances wrth musrc furnrshed by the new Jrtter box a Vrctrola grven to the school by the Parent Teacher Assocratron We now take trme to thank the P T A for the extremely apprecrated grft The next pause and our rush toward the frnrsh was our hrghly advertrs ed Senror Ball Swrng musrc was furnrshed by Pete Renzr and hrs trumpet Refreshments were served durrng the course of the evenrng lt was a very formal dance complete wrth all the decoratrons furnrshed by the Senror grrls and boys The party s hrgh lrght was the appearance of Mr Blazey our Class advrsor who had returned to the ranks after a serrous rllness The dance proved to be a whooprng success Thrs dance closed off a very successful Basketball season of whrch the followrng boys played leadrng posrtron on the Shortsvrlle I-lrgh School frrst Champronshrp team Edwrn Sweeney Larry Roat lack Kerrns Ioseph Mossey Gerald Lewrs and Russell Holtz Edwrn Sweeney our Class humorrst pull ed down the foul shootrng champronshrp of Class A B and C Ioseph Mos sey Class comedran was hrgh scorer rn the Frnger Lakes League wrth the total number of 72 pornts Our 39 sportsters are completrng a semr success ful baseball season One of the mayor hrgh lrghts of last year was the wrn n1ng of the Natronal Class C Champ onshrp by the Shortsvrlle Hrgh School Band Some of our classmates were rncluded rn the envrous trrp to New York Crty vrz Paul McMrllan Gerald Lewrs Edwrn Sweeney George Abel and Russell Hall The clrmax of our race wrll be after our long awarted graduatron That rs a prcnrc sponsored by the Iunrors follo wrng the tradrtron of past years The Antr clrmax frnrshrng up our hrgh school career wrll be a Class house party at Canandargua Lake At the end of our race we wrsh now to thank the entrre Faculty and all other helpful organrzatrons whrch arded us rn burldrng our character rmpart rng to us the knowledge that wrll ard us rn our future successes I O Q Q , . , , ' r 1- 3 ' ' Q. . . , r ,, . . ,, . ,. . .
