Calculating Mathematicians Unravel Survey Mathematics, a course con- cerned with mathematical inventions since the time of Euclid, was offered for the first time this year. Its purpose was to broaden the scope of mathe- matical studies available to the Short- ridge student. Guest speakers, films, biographical studies, and a field trip to the Chicago Museum of Science and lndustry enlivened and expanded the course. Two new overhead proiectors were purchased to facilitate instruction in the more advanced classes. Projec- tion materials illustrated theories, problems, and concepts from all branches of math. Such courses and materials relieved student slaving and assisted in pre- senting the basics necessary for the study of mathematics. ABOVE-Students listen intently in Mr. Freeland's Geometry I class.
