LGWER RIGHT-Chasing the little white light, Stuart Hawkins improves his reading ability in the reading lab. This year the English department introduced a new curriculum to fresh- men. Newcomers thoroughly studied classics and m y t h o I o g y, and re- ceived a much stronger reading en- richment program. Incorporating 700 new books, the Charity Dye Library of- fered a wide variety of reading ma- terial. Pupils also studied in this quiet area during lunch and free periods. Sophomores tackled SILAS MARNER and JULIUS CAESAR, while iuniors re- viewed punctuation and grammar in preparation tor the English V essentials test in November. Seniors chanted the original Middle English CANTERBURY TALES in English literature and wrote precis and iournals in composition classes.
