Some of these activities help the students to understand current affairs better, and others are of value in future years. For those interested in a career as a teacher. Shortridge offers a cadet teacher training program. Some of the cadets practice in nearby grade schools while many are assigned to assist Shortridge teachers. The ecience departments, both natural and physical, are geared to meet the challenges of modern scientific demands. Insect collecting and the debate team are two more examples of ways of gaining practical experi- ence through student interests. Each year a student is chosen to visit the United Nations in New York where he may study this vital organ in action.
