The beauty of our 29-year-old build- ing encloses a Wealth of learning for a large group of Indianapolis youth. The court, surrounded by Shortridge's class- rooms, and the art gallery with its skylight, serve not only as points of beauty, but as laboratory and experimental ground for botanists and artists. Caleb Mills Hall, completely equipped with fa- cilities equal to those on any stage in Indianapolis, is the scene of Shortridge programs and audito- riums along with those of the community. So that the traditional beauty surrounding the school can be maintained, the Fine Arts fund has been established. Through the contributions of the students this beauty can be enjoyed by all in the Shortridge tradition. The pool, complete with its turtle, reflects the soli- tude of the inner courtrtruly a scenic place in Short- ridge. The 19 7 Annual For many years, Shortridge High School has been known throughout the country for its high academic standards and well-rounded program for college preparation. The inclusive and broad schedule of extracur- ricular activities offers further pursuit of class- room studies and opportunities to join with stu- dents of similar interests for fun and service. The athletic teams have brought fame to our 'school and continually have Won recognition. When the city All-Sports trophy was originated three years ago, it made provision for excellence in all sports. Shortridge teams won the first two legs on the trophy and are continuing to excel in each field, whether the sport is a major or minor. The faculty has trained us to make practical application of our courses, guided us in choosing careers, added life to our required subjects, and prepared us for college entrance. National recog- nition through scholarships and the 65070 of the senior class who enter college also illustrate the success of the above average academic standards which for so long have been a part of Shortridge. As Shortridgers, we live by the examples and goals set by our predecessors, but also we strive to progress so that We may maintain pride in our school-a Shortridge tradition. hortridge High School Indianapolis, Indiana

ur Man of the Year As a tribute to his friendship and leadership, his teaching abilities and his contributions to the school, Robert M. King was selected as Shortridge's Man of the Year for the Class of 1957. During Mr. King's nine years at Shortridge he not only has contributed to our school materially, but he has become known for his understanding way with students when they most need help and guidance. This understanding of high school stu- dents and their problems has won a place in the hearts of Shortridgers, grads, and parents. In the classroom Mr. King teaches the problems confronting us in Health and Safety along with an elective course, Alcohol and Narcotics. Kinger, as he is known on the field and in the gym, aids the Shortridge athletic department, in addition to his coaching, with invaluable scout- ing notes on opposing teams. In the Shortridge tradition the Class of 1957 dedicates the Annual to a person who has given wholeheartedly to Shortridge and its school life- the Man of the Year. In the classroom, Mr. King puts life into a course required for all students, Health and Safety. He also instructs an elective course, Alcohol and Narcotics. Kinger gives the boys a few tips for better play in the huddle as he coaches his reserve basketball squad.
