Ma lie yhazlukiye gfiaakkbn . . . 3R'S Forrn Only Skeleton For Complete Curriculum The gamut of classes offered at Shortridge trains students for every phase of life. It prepares the college and career-bound. In addition to the basic, required courses- English, history, one year of math, and one year of a laboratory science-a Wide curriculum of ad- vantageous elective courses is available. To complement the six required semesters of English, courses are offered in public speaking, journalism, composition, and dramatics. The math, science, and language courses are the most ex- tensive in the city. Some of the Shortridge classes, such as Hebrew and Analytical Geometry, are unique and have Won state and nationwide ac- claim. Although these courses are open to all students, they are geared primarily for those preparing for college. Other courses are offered in every addi- tional field. Home economics and industrial education are symbolic of the practical aspect for all high school graduates as are Drivers' Education, typing, choral training, and advanced courses in all departments. With this vast curriculum any Shortridger finds courses which will be of special benefit to him as he prepares for life. Yvonne Roney and Beverly Boesinger find that sewing is a practical preparation for later life. Andy Lacy frightf inquires about special labo- ratory equipment during a tour for chemistry classes at Eli Lilly.

Jn Ike e?lL0ftfMdy0 giaehhbn Student Activities Promote Better School and 8 As much a part of school life as the curriculum are the special clubs and activities which further interest in and understanding of subjects, hobbies, and services. For many years it has been a part of Shortridge to have groups for each field of interest. The Shortridge Senate is the oldest existing extracurricular group in the city, with its origin dating back to 1887. The Shortridge Daily Echo also upholds the school tradition as it continues in its 59th year of publication. These activities and new ones are all a part of the same excellence which brings fame to Short- ridge and enjoyment to its students. Dazwe Kettler. Wednesday editor. checks a proof of his paper as it comes off the press. This was the 59th year of continuous daily publication.
