Qxge The spicy, crisp atmosphere of fall at 34th and Meridian changed to one of festivity and merriment as the spirit of the holidays in- vaded the halls. The gay. senior Christmas party and the warm, sweet tones of the Madri- gal made appropriate background for routine events on the days before vacation. A new year came and suddenly il was ex- citing, hysterical sectional time. Shortridgers rooted with new enthusiasm under their perky, new blue and white beanies. For the first time in many seasons. we won our initial bout. but high hopes were snuffed out during the second heartbreaker with Warren Central, The Quiz 'Em team spent many laborious hours poring over current events and their hard work was rewarded by a fine record of wins. The pit band spent just as many hours pa- tiently rehearsing the vaudeville lines. Their reward? One of the best vaudevilles ever!

Spring rings ew Sch00L Social Doin's Upper-The attendance desk at 8:05, Lower-In between classes is a rush at bookstore. In spring, a young students fancy turns to thoughts of . . . well, anyway, it is hoped that spring fever was not the cause of attendance desk lines when balmy weather made its appear- ance! The crowd at the bookstore again became a familiar sight as students waited patiently to buy the spring semesters books. Many Echo rv- porters were old hands by now while aspiring young writers learned the how to's in a newly organized prep class. Never-to-be-forgotten are those gabfests in our cheerful cafeteria which later turned to walks on the sunshiny north campus. The last weeks at 34th and Meridian were a flurry as seniors excitedly anticipated the senior dance, vespers, commencement, and the final. but dreamy Grad dance. Sports enthusiasts avidly followed baseball, track, golf, and tennis while the Sophs devoted much of their busy time to that all-important subject-choosing a voca- tion. Who says that spring is a lazy time? 12
