The Home Economics Department has two divisions: foods and clo- thing. The foods courses are de- signed to teach correct methods of preparing and serving nutrit- ious meals. The more advanced foods classes serve luncheons and Home Economics teas, and study foreign cooking. The girls enrolled in clothing make whatever is needed in their wardrobes. They study materials and learn how to become better buyers. The study of color com- binations and styles is also in- cluded. The aim of the department is to train girls to be good home- makers, and to study vocations growing out of training and in- terest in home economics. ABOVE-The Shortridge bookstore provides supplies and books for every course offered. BELOW-A large school requires an eflicient staff of custodians. Health Service Do you need first aid? Well, wait no longer. Hurry to 120, the Health Oiice. Capable nurses and two rest- ing wards await you. All minor emergencies are taken care of here. Yearly health records for each Shortridge student are also kept by the Health Service. Cafeteria The job of Mrs. Frances Lichten- walter, cafeteria director. is a big one. If you don't think so, try put- ting out about 2400 hamburgers for 2000 hungry Shortridgers in one day. Future plans for the cafeteria in- clude new additions and modern improvements. Bookstore The Shortridge Bookstore is under the direction of Mr. Hobbs. His assistants are Sue Kassebaum. Elea- nor Reed, Joe Spencer, and Betty Lou Stewart. The Bookstore pro- vides all school supplies. handles tickets for various events, has charge of class jewelry, the Locker Depart- ment, and the Lost and Found De- partrnent. Custodians It is taken for granted by most stu- dents that Shortridge will be in run- ning order every day. However, this does not come about by magic. The staff of custodians Works hard to keep the school clean, neat, and prepared for emergencies. Short- ridgers are truly grateful to them. ABOVE--Do you have blisters, headaches, a broken leg? Is there anyone who doesn't enjoy the fine music that can be heard at Shortridge? Christmas audit- oriums and those for other holi- days are made even lovelier by the participation of the Ensemble, Music Girls' Glee Club, Chorus, and Boys' Glee Club. When the football season comes around. the Band certainly makes all Shortridge proud. It must give every Shortridger a wonderful feeling to see the Band march down the field at the half.
