Science, the nucleus of an Atomic A ge . Teaching students about the living and mechanical world, and what it is composed of, is the object of the Science Department. The theory and principle of levels and other mechanical devices are taught in the Physics Department. The Biology Department has three fields of instruction: biology, botany. and zoology. As projects in these fields. nature hikes are often taken by entire classes. By actual experimentation, the law of definite proportions is taught by the Chemistry Department. Library The Charity Dye library strives to provide research material and recreational reading matter for Shortridge students. It offers over 20,000 volumes for the enjoyment of the pupils. One case in the library is reserved for those books given in tribute to former teachers. This case also contains books given in com- memoration of former students. Familiar faces around the library are those of its librarians, Mrs. Esther Cavanaugh and Miss Jean McVicker. English Correct grammar is absolutely necessary in our modern world. The English Department of Shortridge endeavors to give pupils an appreciation of good literature, and to teach them to speak and Write using proper gram- mar. With this English instruction, stu- dents will be equipped to handle situations that will arise in later life. Public speak- ing, debating, journalism, and advanced composition are offered for specialization. If I were King . . . Tables for reading, research review. Pupils learn about the people, their customs, and more about the country itself.
