Whether on parade, or at drill or riiie practice, mem- bers of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps are learning not only military technique, but courtesy, cooperation, and discipline. They will also, upon graduation, find them- selves in a position for officers' rank in the college units which they may later enter. Under the leadership of Sergeant Vernon V. Bunch, instructor, the boys in R.O.T.C. learn something of military tactics and drill. Those with marked ability can rise to positions as commissoined and non-commissioned officers. Carl Pferrer had top rank this year as cadet major. A new training program, prescribed by the War De- partment, Went into effect last semester, and included courses in Military Policies of the United States, Sanita- tion and First Aid, Organization of the Infantry, Elemen- tary Map Reading, Drill and Ceremonies, Physical Train- ing, Automatic Rifle, Characteristics of Infantry Weapons, Tactical Training of Individual Soldiers, Combat Forma- tions, and Tactics of the Squad. The basis for these points is at- tendance, promptness, physical efficiency, and the practice of good health habits. The boys' physical education department offers participation in organized activities. Their aim is to influence general health and growth and physical and mental develop- ment.
