In the intramural tournament, Team 2 came through to claim the championship, winning 8 games out of the 12 game tournament. The cap- tain of Team 2, Betty Nicholson, was aided by Betsy Goodwin, Tootie Nicholson, Shirley Braun, Phyllis Peterson, Joyce Hesler, Ann Schaffner, Alice O'Neal, Jeanne Teeple, Betty Adams, Ann Kennedy, and Peggy Rankin. The team in second place was No. 1, led by Peg Shiveley. Other members of the team were Jo Ann Stelzel, Sally Bicknell, Pat Bond, Evange- line Andrews, Frances Brockman, Emily Green- land, Ida May Payne, Margaret Lytle, Jane Se- well, and Phoebe Good. Points were awarded on the basis of attendance and team standing, and a sweater is awarded to a girl who has earned one thousand points. Those who received '75 points toward a sweater were Betty Nicholson, Betsy Goodwin, Tootie Nichol- son, Shirley Braun, and Phyllis Peterson. Joyce Hesler earned 70 points, and the following girls earned 50 points each: Ann Schaffner, Peg Shive- ly, JoAnn Stelzel, Sally Bicknell, Pat Bond, Evan- geline Andrews, and Frances Brockman. Those who will probably take the lead on the advanced basketball teams in a few years are Marilyn Conner, Barbara Sims, Pat Riggin, Ann Brigham, Betty Wrege, and Verna Houk. These girls combined their efforts to win the begin- ners' basketball tournament which was played on Tuesdays and Fridays. The advanced players were disappointed this year by not being able to participate in inter- school competition because a certified referee for basketball was not available. HOCKEY The Shortridge girls' varsity hockey team was captained by Suzy Schaub and the following following girls were team members: Betsy Ancker, Shirley Braun, Emily Blasingham, Betsy Good- win, JoAnn Stelzel, Joan Ober, Ida May Payne, Lois Stettler, Betty Jean Stuckey, and Helen Un- versaw. Mrs. Thelma Clark was coach and spon- sor.

Phipps, F. Brock- man, B. Nicholson. SOFT BALL The Shortridge sweater is the highest honor awarded to girls in athletics. The girls receive points by participating in various sports and ac- tivities sponsored by the girls' athletic depart- ment. When a total of one thousand points is reached, a girl is awarded her sweater. The sweater is white with a navy blue block S in the center front. 9 S. EERE LE ' 5 . A varsity baseball team was organized and coached by Mrs. Thelma Clark last spring. The only opponent the Blue and White met was the Deaf School, whom they defeated by winning 14 to 12. On the team were B. Ancker. P. Hobbs, J. Stelzel, M. Nicholson, P. Shively. S. Schaub. E. Covert. E. Greenland, F. Phibbs, P. Gale, L. Cock- ran, I. Payne, B. Nicholson, and P. Peterson.
