The 95th Anniversary of Shorter Col- lege was celebrated by alumni, students, trustees and friends ofthe College at a gala birthday dinner. The birthday cake, sym- bolizing 95 years of devoted academic service, was cut by Dr. Randall H. Minor, President, and Rome businessman, J. Bai- ley Gordon, who has the same birth date as Shorter College - 1873. Founder's Day Observances were held to honor Colonel Alfred Shorter, founder of the College. Representatives fromhthe College placing the traditional wreathon his grave in Myrtle Hill Cemetery are Tony Black, president of the student body, Sandi Forbes, vice president, Dr. Randall Minor, president of the College, Edward S. Shorter, relative of the founder and member of the College Board of Trustees, and T. M. Forbes, Sr., Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

N i X An Appreciation for Tradition ond o Dedication to Improvement As the development plan for greater Shorter moved from drawing board to construction, a 350 million year old fossil, found in the new Student Center excava- tion site, led to a search by students and teachers alike for others of its kind which have lain buried for eons in Shorter Hill. The discovery spurred imaginations and scores of students were seen on hands and knees atop dirt piles, digging with eager, careful fingers. The Devonian finds, the largest in Georgia, are included in Short- er's permanent exhibit at the Smithsonian Institute Museum in Washington, D.C. ftop lefty
