N i X An Appreciation for Tradition ond o Dedication to Improvement As the development plan for greater Shorter moved from drawing board to construction, a 350 million year old fossil, found in the new Student Center excava- tion site, led to a search by students and teachers alike for others of its kind which have lain buried for eons in Shorter Hill. The discovery spurred imaginations and scores of students were seen on hands and knees atop dirt piles, digging with eager, careful fingers. The Devonian finds, the largest in Georgia, are included in Short- er's permanent exhibit at the Smithsonian Institute Museum in Washington, D.C. ftop lefty

It 4 fe' F- LQ --1k 1, J- 'ix 'r I J On the threshold of its second century, Shorter College is in a three year develop- ment program designed to provide a new Student Center to be finished this academ- ic year, a new library, a Fine Arts Audito- rium, and an athletic field. Shorter is pre- paring now to meet the challenge for char- acter and quality in leadership for the New Age. Work progresses under the watchful eye of sidewalk superintendents C.T.B. Harris, Director of Development fleftj, and W. J. Neathery, Business Manager. The Student Center will provide a cathedral-like carpeted dining hall, stu- dent organization offices, lounges for com- muting students, snack bar, book store, and a post office for 1,000 students.
