The birthday cake, sym- bolizing 95 years of devoted academic service, was cut by Dr. Randall H. Minor, President, and Rome businessman, J. Bai- ley Gordon, who has the same birth date as Shorter College - 1873. Founder's Day Observances were held to honor Colonel Alfred Shorter, founder of the College. N i X An Appreciation for Tradition ond o Dedication to Improvement As the development plan for greater Shorter moved from drawing board to construction, a 350 million year old fossil, found in the new Student Center excava- tion site, led to a search by students and teachers alike for others of its kind which have lain buried for eons in Shorter Hill. The discovery spurred imaginations and scores of students were seen on hands and knees atop dirt piles, digging with eager, careful fingers. Shorter is pre- paring now to meet the challenge for char- acter and quality in leadership for the New Age. Work progresses under the watchful eye of sidewalk superintendents C.T.B. Harris, Director of Development fleftj, and W. J. Neathery, Business Manager. The Student Center will provide a cathedral-like carpeted dining hall, stu- dent organization offices, lounges for com- muting students, snack bar, book store, and a post office for 1,000 students. Honor Board The Honor Board is the judicial branch of the Stu- dent Government. Pratt Hubbard, director of the college drama department, is a group com- posed of students majoring in speech and dra- matic art. In the fall they presented the international award winning musical THE FANTAS- TICKS. This parable about romance played four nights and a matineee on campus and a Saturday matinee at the Regency Hyatt House in Atlanta, before a General Alumni Associa- tion meeting. The play is being considered by the USO for overseas armed forces entertainment with the Shorter cast. The spring play production was A Paris Ad- venture, produced for the first time in the Eng- lish translation by the Shorter Players.
