DH Mai . feMbf HatKJ . Jmsua ' M Well, here we are! We must confess that not one of our number thought we ' d make it, but through some quirk of Fate, and in spite of (rather than because of) ourselves, we now rule that domain called Senior Hall. Maybe it would be well to reminisce some. So . . . here goes! We arrived on Shorter Hill and began, as every class does, with that gay (?) arrival, also breaking all Shorter traditions ... it wasn ' t raining! Everything was fine until the day the old girls started pouring in (or should we say screeching in). Who would have though dignified college women could act so uncouth? But before you could say Button, Rat we were screeching with the best of them. We survived rushing . . . and even ratting ' . Ah, ratting . . . ' twas fun, but seems as though our knees will never recover from buttoning! Before too long we had our very own President, Slade, and our beautiful green and black banner with those numerals printed thereon . . . 1949. It seemed sec- onds away . . . THEN! Came the next year we had a new perspective on life and a new president, Deedie. Now we were the ratters and could enjoy ourselves. But soon, oh soon the year ended and .... We were Juniors! Big sisters, too, and we had the best little sister class in all Shorter ' s history. This was the year of our big idea, being called the Forty-Niners and having those lovable green shirts to wear. Our little sisters proved their worth with the gold-rush party they gave us and life was wonderful ! Then Deedie, Mary, Virginia and Pat were elected to lead us in our long-awaited Senior Year. Well, its here and all too soon we ' ll be alumnae! This year we reached our climax with staying up till all hours, coffee at midnight, many bull-sessions, Madelyn as our president, Comprehensives and countless other things which all went together to form our never-to-be-forgotten Senior Year! It ' s been fun, dear Shorter Hill, and we ' ll never forget you, the times we ' ve had, nor the things we ' ve learned. Please remember your Forty-Niners, for we ' ll always be High-Minded and we ' ll be back!
