Weak The 1944 track was strong in the high hurdles, sprints, and broad jump, but lacking distance men and outstanding performers in the field events, the Greyhounds were unable to rank higher than fourth in the suburban conference Outclassed in league competition, the cinder- men took fourth place in the suburban relays, fourth place in the sextagonal meet in Racine, and won another fourth in the pentagonal com- petition at Wauwatosa. Outstanding performer of the suburban con- ference Was Ralph Welton, lUU and 200 yard dashman, who also broke the state record in the broad jump at the suburban relays held at Whitefish Bay fdistance, 23' 1fz l.

FRONT ROW: Marsh Staunton, John Lupton, Bob Schlossman, Ken Rosenthal, Fred Mayer, Tom Mil- ler, Bill Mueller, Jack Lungmus. 79mm Our '44 racqueteer squad under the leadership of Coach Bill Olson had a successful tennis season de- feating East, Rufus King, Wauwatosa, Cudafhy, West Allis Central, West Allis Hale, and South Milwaukee: and bowing in defeat to Lincoln, Whitefish Bay and Waukesha. Two Greyhound singles players and one doubles team entered the state sectional tournament held at Wauwatosa. Greyhound divot diggers, under the tutelage of Coach Ole Gunderson, will strive to recap- ture the suburban crown lost to Nathan Hale last year. Power-laden with a veteran squad, Crimson teetoppers showed promising form by winning early dual meets from Rufus King, East, and Whitefish Bay.
