By solving issues such as the Band Letter and. voting in new clubs such as the dance club, the Student Council truly served out their purpose in an efficient and effective manner. 21 HO OR SOCIETY 1984 Fall inductees - Wrapped Around Your Finger The National Honor Society gained na- tional attention this year through the in- cident in Philadelphia. The Shoreline Chapter, however, continued to pursue its orginial aims of service. The Dance Club represents Shore- liners' endless vilality. and commitment to excellence. CHEERLEADER The 1983-84 Cheerleading Squad truly showed their amazing amount of Spartan Pride in everything they did throughout the year. Whether it was the crucial football game against Edmonds or a Girls Swimming meet they were always there, smiling and cheering the Mighty Spartans Marina Savalli on to victory. Their enthusiastic faces turned up at every event and alot of the work they did went unnoticed. They spent many hours working behind the scene, making posters, candygrams and thinking up new routines. The final results, their skill, entusiasm and dedication were always apparent. This year's Cheerleaders truly gave Shoreline the sup- port and pride that helps the Spartans to stand out amoung the rest. Ann Ferry Frances Holtman 24 Jane Oxnevad ? Shelly Mrdkiff Qi? The most visible efforts of DECA were seen in the Key- stone Korner, the school store and in Harry's Corner the concession stand in Shoreline Stadium. DECA was also instrumental in spon- soring Spartan activities. This year DECA sponsored the Homecoming mums, the Halloween Costume Dance and the Valentines Day For- mal Tolo Just The Two of Us . DECA hosted the Area l training ses- sion at Shoreline in October. DECA then went on to participate in the Western Leadership Conference in Spokane in November, Area l Com- petition during February, and State Competition during April. The three letter acro- nym stands for Teacher-Advisor Group which official- ly began Tuesday, September 20. A seventeen minute breaktime was created for this purpose. Once or twice a week during breaktime freshman meet with teachers and upperclassmen to ask questions and to talk over problems. Ken Martin, a freshman, said this about the programg UI think TAG is an excellent way to get to know some of the upperclassmen and teachersf, The program has also met with enormous cooperation and approval by the faculty. According to Mr. Waller, our principal, TAG will be continued again next year due to the success it showed this year. If the enthusiasm and spirit for Marching and keeps up, we'll be at the top, once again, next Brenda Fullner Jill McCausland t Even after an exhausting year, the Marching Band oks forward to Hmarching on', next year! Under e direction of Peter Sexton, the band took 3rd lace in Western Washington at Port Angeles, and erformed with great distinction at Spokanes North- est Marching Band Championship. They have put in many long hours practicing and perform- ing in both rain and shine. This young corps, with only three seniors, worked with the marching band to produce dazzling football and basketball half-time shows. They also took their charm to Port Angeles and Spokane where they competed against schools from all over the state. In Port Angeles, the six rifles received the Outstanding Rifles trophy which, after all their extra hard work, was well deserved. Work didn,t end with the winter, In the spring, the girls participated in several parades along with enhancing the assemblies with their flag salutes and spirited routines. This intense group, under the leadership of Helen McCarthy, should be commended for their laudable work. Ms. Kaye Ottmar served as this year's advi- sor. In their two productions, a comedy-THE TEAHOUSE OF THE AU- GUST MOON and LI'L ABNER, a musical, the club created professional and very entertaining shows. An added dimension to this yearis club was the combining ofdance and drama skills. This has given the actors a much better sense of movement and rhythm which they can then apply to their productions. Through hard work, much sweat, and pre-performance jitters, the drama club has really had a fantastic and exciting year. I wanna hold your hand. Mr. Nielsen, the director, hoped for a good year but the quality and excellence the Orchestra has put out has surprised even him! School concerts were very suc- cessful. playing a variety of music. with and without the Band members. Such so- loists as Christy Gothum and Mari Fortes gave the concerts more flair and professionalism. Since the majority of the members are underclassmen. their performance this year is only a hint ofthe excellence to come. 1.1. P Wi assi' ...... is . L A-1' ' ti' 1-if-:Jef is ' 'S . 'Sf' 5. With varsity captain Charles Steinberg and J .V. captain Tony Gilbert, the participants ended their long, five month season with only one loss in regular play. In early February the chess team came in first in the Metro League which is quite an accomplishment. Advisor, Herr Laff, has helped a great deal to mold this club into the fine competitive group that it is. Charles Steinberg stated, Slam happy that chess is finally being recognized as a mental sport? With only two seniors on this year's team, we can look forward to many more territic chess seasons.
