Mr. Les Smith-Drama Director The drama department in usual chaos before opening night. Drama Thornton Wilder's OUR TOWN introduced a new year, a new director, and a new philosophy to Shorecrest High School. An experienced Thespian, Wendy Munson, and an ambitious sopho- more, Mel lngold, starred in this production which asks each member of the audience to take a much closer look at his world. The nearly bare stage emphasized the need for imaginative viewing and suggested the philosophy of the new director, Mr. Les Smith, that the emphasis in drama should be on good acting and a minimum of pageantry. Despite the early casting problems and highly inadequate facilities, the play was generally well received. A rare dramatic event at Shorecrest, the one act play, proved attractive enough to the director not only to present George Bernard Shaw's Man And Superman C Don Juan in Hell Q in the early spring, but to also enter it in the competition at the Pacific Lutheran Play Festival. Perhaps the most ambitious undertaking of the year was Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical OKLAHOMAI, presented in April at Morgan Junior High School. Challenged by a drastically limited budget, and poor facilities, the cast redoubled their effort to present an evening of quality entertainment and were greeted by warmly receptive audiences.
