You have attended this public institution of higher learning during its years of greatest change and growth. The mission of the institution has been expanded. The academic programs have been increased in number and improved in quality. Impressive new facilities have been constructed and occupied. Students have played an increasing role in the governance of the institution. In fact, Shippensburg State College has moved forward signif- icantly, and you have been very much a part of the forward movement. You have come from all types of communities and homes. As young men and women you have come to Shippensburg primarily for a higher education. But you have also come to ponder new thoughts, to gain new experiences, to make new friends, and to explore new opportunities. This has been true for 100 years and indeed it has been true in the case of the members of the Class of 1971.
