MQW FOREWORD Our proms, our class plays, the basketball and football games, our music programs, and homework-these memories seem like yesterday. But think ahead, twenty years from now, as you thumb through these pages, you'll recall your best pals, the year the basketball team won the conference, and the people who directed your activities. What will you be then, a lawyer, a nurse, a secre- tary, or pilot? It's hard to predict, but in any case, our high school training and experiences should have taught us good citizenship and a sense of responsibility. We hope this yearbook will recall fond memories, and that even now we can realize the importance of our high school experiences as we became citizens of a community. - ,,+ U IN MEMORIAM The class of 1956 wishes to pause and recall a classmate who passed away in 1952. Those who knew Larry Spero remember him as a petit friendly chap, who could always be found with a smile on his face. Larry was enthusiastic and ambitious and would do a favor for anyone. All his classmates thought amiably of this lad and will cherish his memory through the years. The yearbook has become a compendium of heart-warming memories, and is the only medium, which in the coming years, will link you with your high school days. You will wonder at times about your classmatesr-where they are and what they are doing. Then, reverentially, you will pour over the Scroll and say I knew her when- . For a few years you will be in close touch with all those pic- tures, and then, as your careers develop and your paths diverge, the Scroll still remains faithful in keeping your friends alive in retrospect. The Scroll is all the more valuable today since your classmates are inclined to scatter themselves over a great expanse of the country in search of success and happiness. We of the administration, as well as the teachers, rely upon the Scroll as a type of historical reference book for personal statistics concerning many of our graduates. The Scroll often talks between the lines much more eloquently than a group of grades on a report card or documented information in the guidance folders. And, then, theres your picture. In September, 1952, we began our journey as freshmen. Although we were shy at first, we soon began to participate in the extra-curricular activities of the school. The class officers elected for the year were Bruce Hockersmith, Pres- identg Sylvester Robinson, Vice President, Lois Hovis, Secretaryg and Bill Grible, Treasurer. Anne Martin and Lois Hovis were chosen to represent our class on the cheerleading squad. We continued on our journey and became sophomores. Our most important social event this year was the Sox Hop where many danced till holes in their socks appeared. The class leaders this year were Bill Freeman, Presidentg Bruce Hockersmith, Vice President, Ronnie Hippensteel, Secretary, and Betty Jean Kitzmiller, Treasurer. , During the summer of 1954 our new school was constructed speedily in hopes that we could enter the new edifice in September, but to our disappointment we did not move until February of 1955. Proudly we selected the White Star as our class ring. Bruce Hockersmith was elected President of the junior Class with Bob Fitzgerald as his Vice President. Betty jean Kitzmiller and Roger Weaver were chosen to be Secretary and Treasurer. Our Gettysburg Trip and all the fun we had shall never be forgotten. Formally attired couples danced under the stars at the Prom, and everyone had a wonderful time. At long last September 1955 arrived, and we finally reached our long antici- pated goal-Seniors!! Again we elected Bruce Hockersmith as Presidentg Vice President, Bob Fitzgeraldg and Roger Weaver, Treasurer. Vonnie Sites was chosen Secretary. Beans for Breakfast, our Senior Class play, was a great success. We worked hard on Christmas card sales and successfully sponsored a number of other activities so that our class might go to Washington, the long anticipated trip. As our diplomas are given to each one of us, no longer do our minds drift back but forward. The team had an overall improvement in spirit and their playing. Three games were lost in the last two minutes ot' the game, proving that the Hounds fought to the end. The successful season was highlighted by the Carlisle and Big Spring games. By down- ing the Thundering Herd 55-45 and holding the Bulldog team to a 48-15 score, the boys showed they could mix a good offensive attack with a tough defensive game.
