Remember standing out in the hall because we talked too loud or too much in homeroom? Those were the days too, when we were initiated into the mysteries of a study-hall. We had our first experiences with actual lab work, and we learned the difference between a Latin translation and a pony . And remember all the discussion and quibbling about a student council? And our Soph Hop-remember the lattice work ceiling? We tried a garden theme, using green and white as the two prominent colors, and armfuls of lilacs made the transformed gym very fragrant. It was really very nice, wasn't it? Then the Iunior plays came along. And the Senior play-- You can't Take It With You . But we are taking the memories of our good times along with us. i241 sk 1942 ,gr Senior Class as juniors At last we were no longer the under pups of this institution of learning. We were those Iuniors with a reputation not worth arguing over. Alas! How they did manage to pin everything on our embattled bodies! We had a perfectly marvelous Royal Purple color theme and Deep Purple was our theme song for the lunior Prom. But hor- rors, no one seemed to appreciate our artistic abilities. We hung our heads in shame when the high and mighty Seniors came forth with a Sadie Hawkins' Dance and a pocket- ful of money. All good and well for them, but we had a pocketful of dreams for our Senior year. Then came the big moment in our complacent lives. Mouer l ini l37l f THE SCRQLL ,gr Senior Dramatic Club ALTHOUGH their meetings were very irregular, the members of the Senior Dramatic Club managed to produce several one-act plays. These skits were used for club periods and one was presented at the drama meet at the college. This play bore the title, Moonstruck and the cast consisted of, Harold, a boy of fifteen, in love, played by Teddy Mclnnisg Cynthia, a girl of fourteen, presented by Marie Fitzgerald, and the father, who was more interested in his reading than in the young-love problem, was portrayed by Elmer Naugle. However, because of the illness of one of the characters in this performance, the student coach, Mr. William Gallagher of the State Teachers College, was kind enough to serve as a substitute. Club officers were elected at the beginning of the year. Those officers were presi- dent, Teddy Mclnnisg vice-president, Sidney Koontz, and secretary-treasurer, Mary Goyt. As the play went on, the trials and tribulations of Alex Norris, son of a college dean, unfolded before the amused audience as a series of hilarious episodes. Miss Ethel Clever directed the group activities . During the past year the club has held semi-weekly meetings. At the beginning of the year, the girls planned a din- ner, and at each of their meetings thereafter, one course was prepared or tried out. At their last meeting of the first semester, the dinner which they had planned was cooked and served by some of the girls to the remaining members of the club and their teachers, and student teachers as guests. This dinner was served at school during one of the noon hours. The girls defeated every opposing Sophomore, Iunior, and Senior team to complete the year with no losses, and no ties. ' The forward positions were taken by Elizabeth Ott, center forwardg Fern Brindle, right forwardg and Twyla Wolfe, left forward. The guards were Ieanne Galbreath, Mary Goyt, and Audrey McClellan. The basketball coach was Marcelle Cockley. +1 Hockey THE Senior Hockey team enjoyed a very successful season this year having only two points scored against it and winning every game in which it engaged. During the season, the senior team played both the Sophomores and Iuniors twice, and concluded the season by defeating a team of S. S. T. C. Freshmen. Koontz, McClellan Coach-Raymond Cable Assistant-lohn Bay This year, due to the epidemic of infantile paralysis, in this vicinity, the Greyhounds witnessed the shortest season in their history. Only one game of a nine game schedule, which included Washington Township, Red Lion, Mechanicsburg, Carlisle, Chambers- burg, Hershey, Hanover, Gettysburg, and Millersburg, was played. The Greyhounds clashed with Washington Township under lights on Eckels Field in the one and only game of the season. Following the kick-off, the game became a see-saw affair with Shippensburg threaten- ing three times. Finally, late in the first quarter, a short pass, thrown by Dick Naugle, was taken in the end zone by Bill Hile for a touchdown. From then on both teams threat- ened to score but at the final gun the scoreboard read 6-O in favor of the Greyhounds. The following week, football was canceled for the rest of the season. l 52 l wk 1942 4, Varsity Club THE past year was one of financial, as well as social success for the Varsity Club. The year began by chancing fruit cakes on a variety of punchboards. Later the Varsity Club sponsored basketball games between the Shippensburg Basketeers and the Penbrook Faculty, and also between two lunior High teams in an activity period. Eight new members, three luniors and five Seniors, were admitted to the club for their services in athletics. Five graduating members were presented with Varsity Club sweaters for member- ship of two or more years. The team enjoyed a victorious season being defeated in only two of the ten games it played. The team was made up ot: Austin Basore, Tony Billys, Marlin Bhinehart-forwardsg George Commerer, Edgar Farner, Paul Houck, lohn Reed-guardsp Charles Alpaugh and Robert Hall-centers.
