It was not long, however, before I fell asleep and began to dream. I found myself standing on a street that seemed vaguely familiar and nearby was a queerly dressed stranger I went up to him and asked h1m who he was and if he could tell me the name of thlS strange place He said that he was here to gfve me a glimpse of my class mates ard their activitles in 1957 He told me that the street we were standlng on was the one that led to Shipman High School I looked all around and saw that the town that was presumably Shipman had surely grown a lot The stranger seemed to know what I was thinking and told me that in the past tan year Ship man had progressed suprisingly well NBut enough of this,H the stranger said 'I sup pose you w nt to see some of your former c assmates So come with me N The next thing I knew we were entering the office of the high school There at the desk sat a stern looking man who was the principal He was asleep with his feet propped up on the desk As we came closer, I noticed to my surprise that this man look ed much like Gene Willard except for the stern ex pression Finally I asked the stranger who this man was He seemed surprised that I didn't know and told me that it was Gene Willard who had been prin cipal 1n Shipman for several years At this I was astonished and asked if this was some king of a joke Possum, Principal of a nigh school? Ridiculous' Why, Possum never did like school The stranger, though, assured me that it was he and said that many changes could take place in ten years with that we continued our journey paper office for at the desk sat the editor Hmm a lady editor Why, that must be Marilyn Duncan Marilyn recognized me at once and told me that I would be interested to know that Judy Talley was drawing all the comic strips for her paper I re member that Judy had drawn the comlc str1p for our school paper batk in l9M7 The stranger and I con tinued on lnto the future Next it seemed that we were in a ball park Why, this seems to be a qu er place to see any of my old class mates, I thought The stranger bade me listen -5 E Y, V V , K 1 sci' zvav args ff Aw! 1' x 4 - ' , l'I ' . fi W: .Li . ,Vi A - ' V V Tl I ' 2 I ' 1. , yr' y yi . gf, . av ,fl . I heard them say, 8tart- E ing pitcher will be Simmermaker.H I turned to the stranger in surprise. UNot Weldon Simmermaker.H He told me that Simm had made quite a record for him- self pitching in the Big Leagues As we continued our Journey, riding through the country I noticed a picture of a very attractive girl on a sign board advertising some kind of tooth paste HYou ought to know her,H the stranger said UThat's Anne Thomas She's now a famous model You will be seeing her picture on signs and in magazines all over the country H Our next stop was in a large city We stopped at a building that said HLady Kathryn's Beauty Salonn on it I decided that this must be Kathryn Garrett's place She always had planned to be a hair stylist As we journeyed further, the stranger turned on a little pocket sized radio that he had with him and soon the voice of a talented crooner could be heard I listened awhile and then said, HSurely that is no one from our class U The stranger said that voice was known the world over at's George Krause N HNow wait a m1nute,H I said, HGeorge seems har ly the type to be a second Frank Sinatra H UNeverthe less,U the stranger replied, Uthat was George you just heard H Hwhy, this all seems so impossible Next thing you'll be telling me that one of our class is now president U Uwell, not quite,H the stranger replied, nbut Dillon is planning to run for that office in the next election with Bill Heyen as his campaign man ager H At this I was astonished, but I alwaysknav our class had extraordinary ability, although this seemed almost too much Next we entered an art studio There, to my sur prise, was Joyce Talley She showed me some of her Then I again found myself in Shipman We went up to a house that said Kathleen Grove, M D on the door Kathy told me that she had taken over Dr Bobzin's practice since his retirement After leaving Kathy, we came to a little white bungalow at the edge of town The stranger told me that Miss Schrier, whose name isn't Schrier anymore, lived there It seemed as though after she hadiaught our class she decided there must be an easier profes- sion and got married Hlt lools as though most of our class have done quite well what about Bob He enon fi -, L I E I 1 f 4 mfr ffl!! n . o L if . i ,A . . . fi 1 fn .
