In several respects the 1972-73 school year has been a year of challenging 'firstsf' In the athletic arena Shioc- ton High School made history by fielding its first inter- scholastic wrestling team. Although our won-lost record may not have been the greatest, the spirit engendered by brave competitors and augmented by faithful spectators went a long way toward establishing a solid wrestling tra- dition here. The challenge was evident to all who had a part in the program. Another challenge came with the acceptance of our first foreign exchange student, Mario A ydar of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Mariois warm, ajable manner quickbf captured our hearts. In his brief visit he offered a genuine contribu- tion to our community and to a better understanding of international relations. The positive response made by our student body and faculty will not easibf be forgotten. This year for the first time a Shiocton High School stu- dent attended college instead of completing her senior year localbf. The success of Cynthia Sommers in this indi- vidual challenge is a credit to her as well as to the worth of our curricular program. TheseQ together with the several unsung challenges, should be a source of pride to all of us, especialbf to the Class of '73, whose members played an important role in their achievement. Challenges met, accepted, and accom- plished-that is the story of lye and the message of this annual. Norbert FI Kalinosky Princqral Elna Carter Susie Mantel
