Domestic Science If popularity is any mark of success, the -popularity of the Domestic Science room, not only with the girls but with the boys as well, shows the undoubted success of Bliss Beck as head of that department. The Domestic Science room during the first semester was the scene of work at all times of the day, and the delicious odors sent pangs of hunger to students passing through the hallway. Cooking class is one 1'ound of merry life, work and fun-because mixing, rolling and patting are work-and eat- ing is fun. Lessons consist of ninety minutes a day, live times a week, four days a week for cooking or sewing, and one day for recitations. Cooking in the Freshman class con- sists of the preparation of vegetables, cereals, cakes and pastry. The sewing is on the simpler garments. Cooking in the Sophomore class consists of canning, preserving and pickling, candy making, preparation of meats and soup stocks, serving and invalid cookery. In sewing the harder problems of clothing are solved and the harder stitches are taught. During the second semester the pupils learned the art of sewing. Anyone who takes sewing does not doubt that it requires knowledge and skill, for though it may look easy to sew a seam or make fancy stitches that is' far from being true. llliss l3eck's work has been very effective, because those who scarcely knew how to sew a straight seam, now wear clothes which they planned and made themselves.
