Cjhe Shzoc ANAL' was If Declamatory and Oratory .IAMIES lNl'1LSON MAIJIRIAN QUALLEY Our preliminary contest took place on Friday afternoon April 3, six declaimers and six orators battling for the prizes. It was held in the presence of the student body and the faculty acted as judges. The Winners Were: Declamatory, FirstfMadrian Qualley, Second- Bernadine Qualley, Third-Rose Kelly. Oratorical, First-James Nelson, Second-Robert Middleton, Thirdfflliver Felton. Due to Manawa and New London entering different districts, our district included only three schools: Seymour, Hortonville, and Shiocton, and since Hortonville had no speakers our only rival was Seymour. 'lihe contest was held here Friday evening, April 11. The judges Were: Prof. Mullinex, Lawrence College, Prof. Gruenhagen, Oshkosh Normal, Prof. Rightrue, Stevens Point Normal. The program was as follows: Music ........ HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA My Love Dwelt in Northern Lands BERNADINE QUALLEY Madame Butterfly ...... LUCILLE DROEGER The Finger of God . . EARL DUNBAR The Adventure of Peace ..... JAMES NELSON Both Declamatory honors Went to Seymour, Madame Butterfly Winning first place and King's Pardon second.
