The tirst contest took place February 15. The triangle formed being New London, Shawano, Shioeton. Our Negative team went to Shawano to debate and the Aflirmative remained to debate New London here. A close decision was awarded the Aflirmative 2-1 in their favor. The Negative team won a unanimous decision from Shawano. This placed Shiocton as victor of the triangle. Another triangle was formed including Manawa, Casco, and Shioeton. This debate took place March 11, the Aflirmativc went to Manawa and Casco came here to debate against the Negative. Both teams losthby a close decision. Casco being the winner of this triangle. A pennant was awarded the victor by Lawrence College. Cjhe Shzoc ANAL' was If Declamatory and Oratory .IAMIES lNl'1LSON MAIJIRIAN QUALLEY Our preliminary contest took place on Friday afternoon April 3, six declaimers and six orators battling for the prizes. It was held in the presence of the student body and the faculty acted as judges. The Winners Were: Declamatory, FirstfMadrian Qualley, Second- Bernadine Qualley, Third-Rose Kelly. Oratorical, First-James Nelson, Second-Robert Middleton, Thirdfflliver Felton. Due to Manawa and New London entering different districts, our district included only three schools: Seymour, Hortonville, and Shiocton, and since Hortonville had no speakers our only rival was Seymour. 'lihe contest was held here Friday evening, April 11. The judges Were: Prof. Mullinex, Lawrence College, Prof. Gruenhagen, Oshkosh Normal, Prof. Rightrue, Stevens Point Normal. The program was as follows: Music ........ HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA My Love Dwelt in Northern Lands BERNADINE QUALLEY Madame Butterfly ...... LUCILLE DROEGER The Finger of God . . MADRIAN QUALLEY King,s Pardon . . . EILEEN HANSEN America's Mission . .... ALFRED HOLZ Americanization ...... ROBERT MIDDLETON Protest Against Sentence as a Traitoi . EARL DUNBAR The Adventure of Peace ..... JAMES NELSON Both Declamatory honors Went to Seymour, Madame Butterfly Winning first place and King's Pardon second. On the other hand both oratorical honors were Won by Shiocton, Adventure of Peace getting first place and Americanization second. Page Thirty-eight
