' Vx I , ' he -11200 'Q' ' A , Page Thirty-four The Battle As Freshmen first we entered High, ln that great year of nineteen, We were then numbered thirty three Exceedingly fresh and gieen. We were laughed at by the Sophomores For the pleasures were all theirs, And one day before assembly, Presented us green caps to wear. But they were not contented, For they enjoyed their play. And for our lives after initiation Did each of us solemnly pray. Safe recovering from that torture, To the Sophs shouting defiance, We labored with our English, Algebra, Botany, and Science. When the Seniors of that year, Left old Shioc High Schools' doors We thought we were quite honored When we were made Sophomores. As Sophs we looked upon the Freshies As Sophs at us had gazed, And tlsey dared not call their souls their own Until we had them properly hazed. That year we worked right faithfully, And when good bye we bade, Cnce again we were promoted, Being honorable Juniors made. We struggled with our Geometry Sometimes far into the night But when we'd wake up in the dawn Things had worked themselves out right. To us it was an eventful yearg Our ambitions ran quite high, Looking forward to the Junior Prom , As the fourth of May drew nigh. But the Seniors thought theyid have some fun, They'd see if we would fight, So at once they flew their colors, Their class colors- Black and White. At once we held a meeting, This problem to discuss And we decided then and there, They'd not put it over us. if

WW 6 115.7 Mi ss M C I , I 4 I ,x!!'x,:V,mII'- f1'fiH ,N- x o 20 :til 1,32 - When I got that tire mended And got it back on the rim: I was sitting in my Ford contented But the gas tank looked mighty slim. Before I reached home that night I ran into the ditchg And then my Ford looked an awful sight. I Iooked worse than an angry witch. And when I got up and Iooked around, I discovered the shape it was in, But then I heard a chucking sound, It was the engine in a heap of tin. I thought I would have to leave it there, Until I had more time. I had to be just fair and square Because the fault was mine. Its name soon changed to I.izzy,', Because she was full of dents, This Ford did sure look dizzy, Since it had gone through the fence. I had it Iixed and after that I was a bit more careful: I did not drive as fast as what I did when I was so fearful. The radiator is broken nearly through And can't be fixed no more: The engine misses, hits on two Instead of hitting on four. Its not fit to be seen by a Lord 'Cause there's dents in all the tin, The last I tell you about my 'ForcI , Its a good one for the shape it's in. E. W. Ode to the Freshmen Oh! Us V iglgl zrk o 9 , 11200 'Q' Q 'Q' kgi1i 'lQ Arguments grew hot and heavy: Working fast was every jaw, They said it was a custom never broken, And that we must obey that law. You will decorate in those colors ! Yes, those Seniors dictated thus, We said, All rules may be excepted, just you leave this one to us. On the battle raged and stormed, Until the faculty did we consult, Each of the factions hoping to win, We impatiently awaited the result. At last the decision was given And very much to our delight, For after long hours of thought They made us victorious in the fight. Having conquered the noble Seniors At once we set about And decorated in their colors Tho' as to beauty there was a doubt. Thus our junior year was ended Years fast slipping with their pranks, As the Seniors soon departed We were lifted to their ranks. On The Shiocnfl-ligh School annual, Earnest works begun by some, And when we have it completed We'll know we've something done. Now that we have reached our last step And the days are drawing nigh When we'll have finished English We will meet them with a cheer. Though looking forward to Commencement, Counting often times the days We will not forget our school mates Though our paths lead different ways. ln our little book of mem'ries We will write these things down clearly Although now they are not treasured, We will grow to love them dearly. We will bid farewell to teachers, . Schoolmates all, one last good bye. As we leave our Alma Mater, Our well beloved, Shioc High . R.E..V. ,Z Page Thirty-five
