!.9f0 MSPAR TAN will QHIJIQQ JUNIOR ACADEMY OF SCIENCE ALPHx CHAPTER The Alpha Chapter of the Junior Academy of Science was organized in 1934, as a Boyfs Organization, with Paul Riley and Earl Rodeheaver as officers Having received its charter in 1935 it was the first chapter to become a member of the Junior Academy Several members have attended each of the five State meetings, which have been held in Elkins, Huntington, Morgan town and in Charleston twice At these meetings the Alpha Chapter has won recognition In 1937 at Huntington, Ruth Mayhall was elected to the office of Secretary, also in 1938 at Morgantown, she was elected President of the State Junior Academy Ruth also won honorable mention on her paper given at Morgantown Field trips by members of the Chapter have been taken to Washington, D C , Glenville Science Day, and two trips Pittsburg, Pa , as well as many others At the present time, the Chapter is divided into two groups, the active members numbering fifty five, and the Honorary members with a membership of thirty five, making the total membership ninety, with Mr John M Lambert as sponsor The purpose of the Science Club is to encourage interest in its field the field of Science and it endeavors to assist the Academy in carrying out this purpose 0FFICBRb President Georganna Romine Vice President Betty Campbell Secretary Kathleen Bennett Susan Hursey Treasurer Josephine Hawker Sponsor John Lambert 56 V 'I , I I ' 1' A EY, C fj ' - f 1 I I A J ,. ,v ' K' A ' nfl fx we , xt 14, fx ' r ,Q 0 ' N A 1 fq - U Q 9 0 ,gl ' 4 px fair' .. , . 1 i L A - . - - If a 5 q,l'! x V f A -f 4 , ff I' Y .
