THE RECORD Continued from page 54 H What the hell. The train whistled again. This time it was nearer. The man and the girl came to a creek, swollen with rushing water. There was earth piled up on either side to keep it from spreading all over the swamp. A log stretched from one side to the other. Tango leaped to the log. It started to roll. He caught his balance and crossed to the other side. Then he turned quickly and shoved the log into the water. It floated down stream. So long, girlie, don't get no ideas, Tango said and waved his hand. The girl waded to the middle of the stream. She stood waist deep, the water swirling around her. With an unbelieving expression on her face she watched the man disappear. She heard the train stop to get water at the fueling station and then start again. The train whistled in the distance.
