Class Prophecy After I had fmmshed a big deal for my company the boss gave me a two weeks vacatmn w1th pay to show h1s apprec1at1on That mght when I got home I told my w1fe to pack enough clothes for the klds Bud Doug and jug The next mormng we took off for Sh1loh m an a1rp1ane When we got to the au' port there was just one plane ready to fly to Shlloh When we stepped 1ns1de the plane there stood DELORIS CANTRELL After we put the k1ds to sleep I went up front to 1nqu1re from Delorls about our former classmates at S H S She sa1d that she hadn t been there for a couple of years and th1s would be her flrst tr1p back also She conf1ded that she just couldn t out run the flyer she was chasmg when she went to school but that he had taught her a few thmgs about flymg and she had a bus1ness of her own When we landed at the Sh1loh A1rport we took a tax1 to town Whxle lookmg around for some place to eat we saw a bzg neon slgn flashmg on and off lt sa1d WITCHIE S Restaurant Steaks and Chops Our Specialty So we went mand there was Buzz back 1n the k1tchen d1sh1ng out the grub to hxs customers We ate and then Buzz came out from the kltchen and asked us 1f we had a place to stay He sa1d he would call up the l1ttle woman and see 1f her relatxves had f1nally dec1ded to go home yet They must have because he sa1d 1t was O K and we should take out sultcases down to h1s house and come up to the restaurant for our meals Buzz sa1d that he needed some potatoes for the nlght meals and 1f I would go get them lett1ng us stay and eat wxth h1m Then I went for the potato farm I saw letter1ng on the barn that read WALLACES POTATOES m b1g black letters Chuck and IONA MILLION had bought the farm from john Swartz and had a very good bus1ness As I drove up they were just com1ng out of the1r on1on patch 1n thelr overalls We talked a wh1le and then I told Chuck that I wanted three bags of potatoes As he was loadmg them on Iona told me that ANNA MAE HAMMAN had f1nally caught Chxz Bly and they were marrled Anna d1dn t l1ke the 1dea of gettmg up at 5 30 1n the mornmg to run one of h1s m11k routes so she talked h1m 1nto sellmg the route and buymg the Rome Store I wlshed them well m thelr bus1ness and started back for Buzz s with the spuds When I passed the Smokehouse I heard an awful nolse that sounded as 1f some body had just blown a hole through the wall Upon entermg I recogn1zed KEITH BLOOM It seems Kelth couldn t beat the pmball mach1ne and was about to tear It apart Boy was he ever burnmg up I f1nally settled h1m down to where he could speak a few words of Enghsh and he told me he was st11l out on the farm makmg his brother do most of the chores and work I-Ie was st11l smgle but he had a couple of cute blondes on the str1ng but just d1dn t know wh1ch one to p1ck Ke1th showed me the headlmes of the paper wh1ch read SHILOH BOY RECOVERING FROM NEAR DROWNING As I read down the column I learned that the boy was BOB CLARK So out I went for Rome where Bob s folks lwe Z0 for him, he would be grateful. When I asked Bob how 1n the world he could have drowned on the farm where there wasn t even a small stream gomg across 1t he explamed that he was trymg to d1scover a way to make cows g1ve more mxlk One partxcular morn1ng he de clded to try all of h1s mventlons on the cows at once then he turned on the radio It so happened that the program was the Hour of Contented Cow s Mus1c The cows just couldn t hold back and w1th all the sprgots open they gave so much mxlk that It flooded the barn floor He sl1pped and fell and was knocked cold When the rulk got so h1ght he floated out the wmdow h1s dad p1cked h1m up and took 'nm 1nto the house To shut the cows off they had to turn off the electr1c1ty I told Bob that lt was just too bad that he had to turn on the rad1o I w1shed h1m luck and sa1d goodbye I had to be on my way to fmd the rest of my classmates before I left for New York When I got 1nto Shrloh It was 4 30 and qurttmg txme for the factorles around the town I saw DOROTHY DENT walkmg up the street wearmg a b1g pa1r of overalls She mformed me that she just got off work at the Gas P1pe Factory and that she was makmg good money weldmg the plpes together Dorothy sa1d that our old classmate DOROTHY SHAW was workmg ln the mmt 1n Washmgton D C and was workmg w1th more money than any of us had ever seen She was tearmg S100 b1lls apart from a b1g sheet and was havzng a great tzme just feelmng the fxlthy stuff There was a new bu1ld1ng go1ng up across the street from us EUGENE MITCHELL was the straw boss of a crew of thlrty men He was makmg them work very hard and g1v1ng them ratrons of bread and water for thelr eats Eugene sazd that thxs was cheaper for the company and that for every penny he saved the com pany he would get to keep half of it The next week they were start1ng 12 hour days and a n1ght shmft for the same bunch of men Eugene sa1d that he was at the Sh11oh Speed Way last Sunday when GERALD ALFERY had h1s wreck and broke both legs lost four teeth and suffered a dlslocated ear However our old school chum DELLA LASER was the nurse and Gerald was lmprovlng under her tender Care I saw a few posters around town advertlsmg a new kmd of underwear and I re member HOWARD WORRELL S say1ng that when he was out of school he was go mg to qu1t farmmg and go mto the manufacturmg bus1ness Although he went bank rupt several trmes Howard had found a way to make money at last He went 1nto the underwear busmess wmth two of h1s classmates and they were do1ng a very good busmess together He h1red MARLENE RUSSELL to do most of the f1nanc1a1 work for the company he also h1red MARY SEAMAN to do the modelmg for the company Mary didn t l1ke It at f1rst because xt was so cold m the room where she modeled for the women who came ln to buy all sorts of underwear n1ght gowns house dresses and other thmgs too numerous to ment1on Howard gave some of the success of the buslness to these two helpers and of course takes qulte a l1ttle of lt for hxmself for h1r1ng them Howard also h1red Marlene as h1s d1shwasher n1ght watchman ma1d and dog walker Marlene thought of a l1ttle romance but of course Howard wanted to keep It on a strlctly busmess basxs Z1 ' . . . .
