Page Sixteen BASKETBALL The Shillmgton High 1947 48 basketball squad composed ot ten scrappy sharpshootmg basketeers excellently coached by 'Xlr Charles J Hemmig and captamed by giant Gerry Potts completed the league season in second place with eleven victories and three hard fought losses The team also set a new record by smothenng SEATED Rhoda Haldeman Potts captain Frymoyer stehman Nlohnton 77 33 to become the ROW II Mr Hemmig coach Halton Wagner Smith Xogel Stoudt high scorers against an, single Baer manager team Of the 763 points the Speeders amassed to their credit against their opponents 632 273 were rocked up by Gerry Potts who also set a new all time high of 38 points for in dividual scoring honors in the Central Division Out of the twenty one regular season games the hardwooders conquered fifteen and were downed six times yielding a percentage of 713 At the completion of the season the Speedboys got a crack at the P I A A Class A playoff but were nosed out by Ephrata in a 43 42 hardfought game on Lebanon High School s hardwood The decade of basketeers comprised of six seniors Gerry Potts Butch Stehman Johnny Wagner Dick Stoudt and Bob VN alton want to wish good luck victory and the 1948 49 championship to Coach Hemmig s boys of next vear J V BASKETBALL The baby Speeders coached STXNDINIG Mr Klopp coach Conrad Wanner Vhssler Herzog Daniels SI- XTED Peters Nelson Coldren Sweimler Bausher Reinhart captain JHSIDSKI Daubert manager by Mr Paul Klopp were not xery successful in their 47 48 campaign Hawmg won only one of the fourteen league A 6 games and txo of the non league games they ended up in the Central Dnision cellar Although they suffered their worst season in history the Junior varsity has produced some future prospects for the coming years Paced by top scorers Ken Reinhart Doug Coldren Dick Suelmler 'Don Daniels Harry Vkissler and Bud Bausher the J V s gaxe many of their conquerors a tough and scrappy battle L , 1 L. c C A 1 . im f 4 . . . n D I V 3 ' Y ' v V r Y A I . .
