“Nothing In Education Is So Astonishing As The Amount Of Ignorance It Accumulates In The Form Of Inert Facts.” Henry Brooks Adams The Primary Objective Of The American Educational System Is Not The Distribution Of Facts. For What Are Facts Without Some Means Of Interpretation? And What Value Does Understanding Hold If Expression Is Beyond Reach?

. 0 N-UT O I, Our American tradition is unique in that it pro- vides both the “freedom from and the freedom to.” We have been granted the protection to pursue crea- tivity and learning, free from restraint other than that dictated by morality and good taste. In addition, we have been encouraged to change and grow, while clinging to the principles on which our institutions are founded. This volume of The Profile celebrates these free- doms by attempting change in several ways. Our dividers are constructed not only to indicate various points of interest in the publication but in the com- munity as well. The region in which we live is rich in historic loca- tions that we many times overlook. These photo- graphs attempt to document this heritage. They will say more in twenty years, as our historical awareness seems to become more accute in retrospect. We have also tried to interpret past events and times as seen through the eyes of the staff. Although these may lack some historic detail, we offer them as momentos for your enjoyment. All of the text and photographs in this year's Pro- file, with few exceptions, are student produced. These works are offered from a subjective viewpoint by those who were involved. They are, moreover, a token proof that the educational system you support is working, in a practical as well as a theoretical way. For anything we have omitted, apologies are ex- tended. This has been a year of transition for us, a time of modification in our structure and operations. My personal thanks go to all the people who dedi- cated immeasurable time, creativity and effort to the cause. Jim, Betsy, Mong, Annie, Thumbs, Pete, Car- los, Murray Co., you have my utmost respect. I have learned by meeting your minds. Many thanks also to all the members of the Administration and Staff who saved our lives, helped our heads, and tolerated our interruptions. Welcome then to the celebration of a proud tradi- tion. Welcome to a collection of thoughts, happen- ings and emotions that represent a time in transi- tion. Welcome to the 1976 Profile. 2 R.T. Shannon
