The language laboratory was used exten- sively as the students practiced with records and tapes. Involvement in the language was a major facet of study included in the course . Crowning the year’s language activities were trips to Spain and Ger- many taken by many of Shikellamy’s exuberant linguists.

In their constant effort to design new and advanced avenues of study, the English faculty members created varied, nine-week mini- courses. These courses, available to many of the seniors, included, radio and television, creative writing workshop, fun and games, and poetry of folk and rock. This program was so successful that next year the entire Language Arts Department curriculum will be comprised of mini-courses.

26 Industrial Arts Develops Student Skills In order to prepare students for the vocational world, the Industrial Arts Department stressed personal experience and service. Through me- chanical drawing and graphic arts courses stu- dents gained knowledge of drafting, printing, and binding. Proof of their skill could be seen throughout the school in the form of programs, tickets, and posters.
